Hi,
I've been talking to Mediafire support about very slow upload speeds to their servers from my BT connection, they swear that they don't cap upload speeds but I cannot get more than 250k to them on my Infinity connection.
Uploads to anywhere else I try are at my full 20Mps.
I guess my question is does anyone else here upload to Mediafire, and do you get your full speeds ?
Thanks

I'm on BT aswell and get 250KB/s too, also the upload drops to zero about every 10 seconds which drags the average down to 221KB/s.

You could do with someone on a different ISP to test the speed, mediafire might not throttle but 250KB/s might be their max speed. I'm a free user aswell so maybe paid accounts get more speed.

Thanks, that's useful to know.
It would help to get other ISP's users upload speeds too, I agree.
I specifically asked them if paid accounts were faster, and they replied that they treat all accounts the same, so there shouldn't be any difference.
I sent them trace routes and they seemed to think that the problem lay with my ISP (BT).

I could potentially start using their service but not at those speeds.
Anyone not on BT willing to test? You need to register but it's free and you could use a temp email address.

That's complete and utter rubbish - They cap it or have their network configured wrong.
I can only usually get ~750KB/s when downloading in Chrome on the 100Mbps connection I have to my Universities' 10Gbps JANET connection.
However if I use the IDM client I have which downloads with 32 connections simultaneously, I can push around 10.5MB/s download from MediaFire - Exact same file.
It usually indicates thread capping AFAIK.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Telewest (2004-2006): 256Kbps -> 512Kbps
BT (2006 - Present): 8128/448 -> 22494/1211Kbps on 21CN Huawei MSAN
University of Portsmouth's Horrible Network (2013 - Present) - Supposedly 100/100Mbps

Thanks, from that it looks like BT might have a route problem to them or be capping the upload to them.

Maybe, but I get my full fibre download speed from them (around 78 or so) its the upload that seems restricted for BT customers.

Just want to make sure we are comparing like for like.
I'm getting the same speed as Croftie who I think was quoting kBps.
Are you saying you are only getting around 0.2 Mbps?
|
|
|
|
Thanks gmoorc, indeed I'm quoting kilobytes.
So mediafire upload speeds on both BT and xilo are 2.5Mbps (250KBps). Unless these ISPs are throttleing to the same level it seems medifire are infact restricting the upload speed.

2.5Mbps = 2500kbps = 312kBps. Not 250KBps.

and it's throttling not throttleing

Yeah, it wasn't a precise conversion. I was pointing out the units.

That's fair enough. I should take more care of my spelling on internet forums so that the pedants with too much time on their hands have less work to do

OK, so basically everyone that has reported is only getting around 250k upload ?
I'll go back to Mediafire and see what they say to that.
Thanks everyone for your time.
