FTTP

FTTP and FTTPoD (on Demand) are 2 different things.

FTTP and FTTC are an either/or but no choice which you have, that's down to how your cabinet area is provisioned.

FTTPoD is an option on some exchanges for those who can already get FTTC, but it'll cost you big bucks.

£99 per month is the cost from Openreach, there is the wholesale and retail costs to be added to that

You need to get a quote for the installation. Around 1 in 3 incur 'excessive construction' charges.

FOD is priced differently per each CP -you will need to speak to an Providier - (engineer wont be able to help you) -- it is also distance dependant and you have to be on an FTTC enabled cab to even concisder puchasing FOD -- distance is from you to aggregation nde (not distance to enabled cab assuming you are on an enabled cabinet)

My exchange is one of the 2014 ones. But when I do a check for ultrafast infinity I only get normal FTTC options.

So is this still in the loop to be done?

Also is there a path to upgrade from FTTC to FTTP or is it seoerate?

I'm asking as I could use this for business (video intensive - working from home) and I am in a connected cities voucher area. Also I know it's £100 a month for FTTP now but I'm not bothered about that)

This is the difference between FTTP on Demand and native FTTP

I have not gone with the fastest only Unlimited BT Infinity 2 which is plenty for me.

In your opening post you gave a link to a screenshot showing FTTPoD was available to you. cornishweb has native FTTP.

I replied to your OP briefly stating some facts about FTTP / FTTPoD.

Its easy you will be paying the higher price, i.e. the £99+VAT plus what ever markup the retailer wants to add so likely to be close to £200. Then of course the install costs.

People who have FTTP available as their only fast option, i.e. FTTC does not appear on the checker get the cheaper version that is the same price as GEA-FTTC. Around 100,000 premises have this as their superfast connection, but a good few million have the option of Fibre on Demand as well as FTTC.

If a handful of customers on a certain cabinet choose FTTPoD will Standard FTTP become available to other customers in these areas? (i.e. a subsidised FTTP rollout). It's something I've been pondering

Not at this time, maybe in ten years time...

A cabinet serves many postcodes e.g. a 200 line cabinet would need around 8 splitters and 20 manifolds installed to serve every one with FTTP, even if people were clustered ideally.

A cluster of eight premises might be able to negotiate some discount if they all order FTTP on Demand at the same time and from the same retailer and negotiate with Openreach

Bit lost with all this, i know i can upgrade to the 330 package but its £50 a month

Yes you can, but those where FTTP on Demand is shown on the checker cannot and have to pay a higher price.

In short you got lucky by being one of the 100,000 where FTTP from Openreach was installed to within a few metres of your home ahead of you ordering it.

First time i have had any luck will let you know how it goes.

You're going to upgrade to 330MBps from 80Mbps?

Got connected 3 days ago all seems good so far speeds seem great, 75MB Download 21MB Upload which is plenty and cant see any reason to upgrade to top package.

Native FTTP is available from BP Retail on 40/10, 80/20, 200/20 and 330/30. It is FTTPoD that is only available at 330/30. Of course you already know the difference so I will not explain that again.

Ahh i wasn't aware of this actually.

I have never seen anything that suggests that FTTPoD is for business premises only. I was under the impression that if your pockets were big enough ad you were on the appropriate exchange then you could get FTTPoD to a residential property.

Yes - FTTPoD is available to "anyone" who can afford it on an FTTC cab that is in a FTTPoD area.

Which retailers choose to sell it and whether it is deemed as a "business product" is just words at the end of the day.
