New Router

Sorry for a daft / repeated question but

What is the best router to replace a HH4 for infinity at the moment? I would like an all in one device (to save power sockets) and I would love better speed and wifi than the HH4.

My personal recommendation, split modem and router functionality, so modem can be on short cable close to master and the router then located in the optimum place for WiFi coverage in a property.

The modem and router can be separated by 100 m of CAT5e cable with no impact on the speeds.

Picking up on short cable to modem.

How short should the RJ11 cable be. Mine is a cheap i.e. one I already had, 2M and I can only this kind of length available on say Amazon.

My modem could be reached by .5M cable.

Any recommendations on cable length and quality and if so a source of such?

BTW any reliability problems I have are exterior to my property; bad BT cabling. But would a better cable than the one I have improve internal speeds significantly?

Go for a twisted pair RJ11 to RJ11 and 0.5 or 2m will make negligible difference to overall signal quality.

The new Billion 8800AXL looks interesting and it comes with Wireless AC

I have found their devices to be reliable with lots of options. That has the downside of sometimes making configuration a little complex

A standard flat cable is likely to pick up noise, twisted pair have a degree of immunity.

Have a look on ebay for an RJ11 to RJ11 cable and then check to see if it uses Cat5 or Cat5e cable. There are sellers who will make them up to the length you want and 0.5 is fine.

That is the type of cable - however it is 5metres long! Keep searching and a shorter one will turn up.
