Android "Sign into Wi-Fi network" request on home WiFi

Last week I changed my (ADSL2+) broadband service from another ISP to BT and with it have changed modem/router to BT Home Hub 4. Since then my Android device regularly requests me to "Sign into Wi-Fi network" as though I'm on a public WiFi hotspot that requires a login page, as opposed to my home WiFi network. If I follow the Android notification I get a blank screen on the browser.

Does anyone else experience this and does anyone know what causes it?

Make sure the device is connecting to your own private Wi-Fi and not to the BT Openzone Wi-Fi hotspot that the Homehub also advertises for use (legitimately) by passers by.

ps There is an Android app to automate your BT Openzone login for your use when out and about.

Yes. The SSID that goes with the sign in notification is my own SSID, not BT WiFi. In any case, the Home Hub Manager is saying that BT WiFi is "Not active on your BT Home Hub" even though I have not opted out.

And, yes, I have installed the app you mention and have had BT WiFi access elsewhere.

Is the SSID of the old and new routers the same?

I just got a new Sky router and set it up as per my old one, with the same SSID, before I used it. I had the same message as you on my Android device, so I forgot the wifi network on the phone and reconnected again. I have not seen the message again since doing that.

Yes, I've set up the home hub with the same SSID and password. I'll try forgetting and reconnecting as you suggest.

Yes, but only a small amount of bandwidth of ever given for BT WiFi users. Plus it means you get access to BT WiFi in return. It's great imo. Getting into a WiFi hotspot is usually as easy as finding a few houses. Plus you get free access to BT hotspots in hotels etc.

It is a small amount and even when ib use you are unlikely to notice it. I have had mine router enable for years and have never noticed any problems although I doubt if it can be seen unless they are either in my garden or a neighbours house. I occasionally use it with no adverse effect to the main connection.

Do not worry about security - it uses a separate SSID and a VPN and users cannot see any of your network.

As mentioned, it will give you access to thousands of BT hotspots throughout the country which I certainly find useful when in moving around towns.

Sigh. The Sign In requests have returned today.
