BT Blocking sites

Since this morning despite not changing anything "Adult" sites are now blocked.

I am the account holder and not changed anything there appears no way of changing this.

I follow the instructions on the below link, however there is no box for parental controls.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Try using an alternative DNS server.

I was experimenting last night with a site I've visited a few times in the past and found I can no longer access it. It times out with the error;

If I use a vpn addon I have for my browser then I reach the site no problems.

Though I'm not using the default BT DNS server I am using one of their additional dns servers.

What's a good dns server people recommend outside of BT?

Both of these are good =) Personally I prefer Google.

Google DNS:
Primary: 8.8.8.8
Seconadry: 8.8.4.4

OpenDNS:
Primary: 208.67.222.222
Seconadry: 208.67.220.220

I updated the DNS server list and sites do now appear quicker.

Though the site I was trying to connect to still seems to be blocked. I suspect its from it's side for some reason.

I used a program called namebench. It's interesting that last time I used it, it give me those former servers, and now its saying the 8.8.4.4 is nearly 25% faster! It does show too.

Which site is it?

I do visit quite a few "Adult" sites for both personal and professional reasons - they are shooting related rather than the XXX sites.

I have tried to access them through my BT Business connection - no problems and then through a BT Openzone WiFi connection - again no problems, not blocked in any way what so ever.

My DNS settings are the BT default ones .


What sites are you trying to access? If you do not want to say on here you can PM them across and I will try from my connections.

Have BT auto turned on a low form of blocking?

The link from your link works on BT Business and on BT Openzone.

A couple of other links - certainly XXX rated work on both of those too.

If they had blocking turned on then I would have thought that Hot Spots (Openzone) where anyone can access a site in a public place would have been affected. The Business service - don't know although I would have though it would be excluded.

I did have that problem earlier this year. The parental controls had been turned on(logged into my account and the parental controls showed as off/not activated) - eventually the guys/girls on the BTcare twitter team did acknowledge that due to a system error (software update) some peoples accounts had been updated even though it didn't show on their accounts. This might be the same issue?
