Unlimited Infinity - is £12.50/month the best?

I'm currently on copper broadband with Sky but on a BT line (throwback from being on O2).

I'm interested in moving to fibre but I also see Sky and ITV have lost the Champions League to BT - meaning I'd need BT Sport to watch it, and to add that to Sky is rather expensive.

It seems I could kill two birds with one stone by switching my broadband to BT as I can then add BT Sport for a fiver a month.

I've been toying between 38mbps and 72mbps though tbh I don't think I need nor can I justify 76mbps.

The best offer I can find right now is £12.50/month for the first 12 months for Unlimited BT Infinity 1 plus the fiver for the BT Sports which would appear to let me watch online using BT's app but also via my Sky receiver.

Any thoughts on whether there are any other offers about, and on how good/bad Infinity is?

I don't have any special requirements here, 02/Sky Broadband has been absolutely fine.

Incidentally are Infinity installs DIY or engineer visit, and do you still need two boxes (modem + router) or has it got a bit smarter now as I believe Sky Fibre is now DIY.

As always check on-going price, which are minimum term is £23 per month, versus the £20 for Sky fibre. With both providers when outside minimum term its negotiation time if you want to keep price reasonable.

BT and Sky fibre are usually both self-install now and with single boxes.

Thanks, and indeed after 12 months it goes up, but it's a 12 month contract.

I can't find a single offer on the 76mbps product - presumably people who truly need that will pay for it so they don't see a need to incentivise people.

Plusnet do a six-month discount on 76/19.5, and BT Sport as an option. (Line and BT Sport price rises coming).

Talktalk is £28ish a month for 80Mbps right now, if you migrate a line over. This includes line rental. By far the cheapest option, I've just signed up for it at my new place... Given that the Sky Hub keeps rebooting itself due to me having over 16 devices frequently using it (so scrapping Sky).

How many devices will the TalkTalk VDSL router support without falling over?

Sixteen connected devices sounds to me to be rather more than cheap domestic kit is designed for. Semi or fully-professional kit is advisable.

As far as I know I'd still have the BT Sport issue? And it's Talk Talk who last time I checked have just about the worst reputation out there, though I can't say I've kept up to date.

For HD on your Sky TV box it's another £4 per month, although there might be a reduction for the first year.

Thanks that's a good spot - seems that isn't optional either i.e. if you have Sky HD you have to have the BT HD option.

Annoying but it still seems the cheapest combo of unlimited fibre plus phone line plus the sports on Sky and available to stream.

A friend of mine has 25 devices on their talk talk router happily working - I've seen it.

It's more about sky not allowing me to use my own router, and I would have to find a specific device that supports MER etc.

Also I've had some other issues with sky related to throughput so it swayed the boat.

I'm happy to spend a good £200 on routers etc if necessary but before I do that lets see if their hub will work. I feel positive given that a friend of mine has 6 kids so 8 users and often 25 people on his talk tap hub.

Connection wise it's fine. The talk talk network is fine and they have a decent forum where you can post.

I just presented a cheap option to you which may be worth considering it customer service doesn't bother you that much.

Personally I would ring sky and make a deal with them

BT Sport without BT Broadband is obscenely expensive, like £24/month just on its own and you can't order it from Sky you have to order through BT from the looks of it.

So a deal with Sky might see me doing OK on the broadband, but overall I won't be better off once you factor in everything.

"Bundles" seem to be the way everyone wants to go.

Sorry I thought you already had sky TV.

Sky gave me BT sports and formula one stuff for free on the TV side for a year I think.

If you don't have Sky TV & don't want it, then bt sport comes free with bt broadband.

I can personally vouch for bt broadband as I have it as a work connection. It works flawlessly with 70Mbps or higher on speed tests. I've never unplugged the hub and it works flawlessly. The hub does auto reboot every two weeks which is normal. Overall it's been great.

Worth noting is that BT give you substantially better deals once you go beyond that first contract. I have a £12ish a month discount on the advertised price. I didn't really seek it out either as work payback the price, they offered it.

I thought you had to order BT Sport through BT directly, even if it's to be added to your Sky TV package.

From what you've just said I may see what Sky can offer.

Not really interested tbh, just want it on the Sky box and/or the laptop.

Given that £16 (or there abouts) is the norm for a phone line, it seems to come down to whether I can beat £12.50/month for 38mbps fibre, and £9/month for the BT Sport HD add-on for Sky.

From the other replies I'm going to give Sky a call.

The forum is manned by UK staff but they take about 3 working days to reply to a post(in my experience - left around a month ago).

Now you've lost me - I see no option to get BT Sport from BT other than by paying to get it on Sky, or by taking out BT Broadband (you can't get BT TV without BT Broadband).

If there is another way I'm all ears.

Quite, and having just called Sky there is nothing they can do here - I was a little surprised that they didn't even try but it seemed a bit of a long shot anyway.

Given I pay £12.50/month for my copper broadband, I'd be paying BT the same for Infinity so then it's just the £9 for the BT Sports vs. £25 to leave everything as it is and add it on.

Seems a no-brainer - just wanted to be sure I hadn't missed any crazy deals.

Err - NO! - All you need to get BT Sport and all the others Is Broadband! ...

Did you approach them to give notice to move at the end of your initial contract or how did you get the discount?

I'm coming to the end of phone line/anytime calls/unlimited broadband/BT sport via sky box and have no desire to move but obviously the offers around could save lots of ££. (Market 1) and am wondering which approach is best

In their questions section it says "If you've got an HD subscription with Sky, this won't work with BT Sport. You'll need to add BT Sport HD to your BT Sport package."

Two questions

1 Do you really need HD (see above)

2 Does that apply to BT Sport Lite? (assuming you don't want Champions League)

Tbh it's kind of academic here as I do want HD and I want Champions League - that's the whole reason for looking at BT Sport as well as Sky because if you like football they have you over a barrel

Then I agree BT is the way to go. Some current offers give up to £125 Gift Cards to new customers but ensure you pick unlimited downloads. Can't see the average domestic situation needs more than Infinity 1

Although some complain about the service BT has been great for us and in a rural situation where long lines can be a problem we found their service was much quicker than waiting for service provider to contact Openreach for repairs

Sky I went through to cancellations.

Yes I keep being tempted by the 76mbps but quite honestly it would just be for bragging rights

I've done about as much digging as I can and I simply cannot see a better option here.
