HomeHub 5 - 5Ghz Speed

Hi guys.

I am only interested in people who have separated their 2.4 and 5Ghz SSID on their HomeHub.
I have an issue where the 5Ghz WiFi speeds fall rapidly on the HH5.

ON THE TYPE A

5ghz speeds are fine for approximately 2 days of uptime, beyond this, the speed caps around 25Mbps. Rebooting the router brings it back to 37Mbps.

ON THE TYPE B

5Ghz speeds are fine after a reboot. The speeds then go haywire, often falling below 10Mbps, then back up to full speed. A channel change or a reboot often helps. The issues begin just an hour or so after a reboot.

Who else sees this behaviour?

To confirm, using my own router resolves this matter.

All speedtests are ran with full WiFi reception in the same room as the HH5

Whether i use my Type A or B i always get around this http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/5289935890 (brick wall separating the router from the PC)

I've noticed the odd dip when using either but never nothing as drastic as what you've experienced.

Lots of people see this behaviour. Do a google search and there's all sorts of ideas on how to fix it. I tried them all. Nothing worked, exactly as you describe.

Changed the HH for a Netgear D7000 and all the problems went away.

Makes a lot of sense why BT have the SSIDs merged... Their 2.4Ghz performs better as the routers crippled. The 2.4 is actually very good though.

I actually had not noticed as I had been using 2.4Ghz mainly in my back room where the speeds are slow already.

Yeah I've not even plugged in my homehub after using it a few years back and remembering meh WiFi speeds

Just using a HG635 here

Pushing about 72Mbps down the hall and into my bedroom to my phone.

Ironically also using a HG635 router, provided by TalkTalk. Working perfectly fine.

After my initial post i have since seen my Type B do this and require the channel to be changed to get the full speed back.

Shocking really that the largest ISP in the UK cannot provide a satisfactory router... Even more amazing that both the type A and type B have these issues.

Before I posted here I had tried 3 routers myself and had ran speed tests at 2 friends houses who were on BT. Same issues on all 5 routers, testing with 5Ghz on my iPhone. Hence I have concluded this is a wide spread issue. Most users must just believe WiFi cannot handle the speeds, when actually AC should be handling it just fine. BT pass the buck as they will say they only guarantee the speeds over a wired connection.

Wonder if this also affects the plusnet hub, which is based on HH5A.

Even my Motorola Moto X Play can max out the 5GHz side when it actually works.

when i have some spare cash i am buying a 3rd party router, the HH5 has gone from being brilliant when it was launched to a bit of a mess now, each firmware just seems to make it worse.

Two of us on this thread use a HG635 from talk talk (me included).

It is very easy to setup with BT, does not require an external modem and I've seen it have uptime in excess of 100 days without a reboot.

Can get them on flee bay for very cheap.

I see full 5Ghz speeds with this device.

There's also a tonne of third party routers which are a lot more expensive but offer a lot more features such as the netgear nighthawk range.
