BT Pricing

Browsing BT's BB web site it intrigues me to see that after the initial 12-month contract term for their special offer the price goes up, not to the non-off [their term] price but to a price considerable higher.

2 examples (all prices are per month).

Unlimited BB: £5 for first 12 months, then £20. Current non-off £13
Unlimited Infinity 1: £10 for first 12 months, then £26. Current non-off £20

Why can't they just revert to the non-off price at the end of the 12 months? It seems they're relying on customer inertia to recoup the lost revenue from the discount.

Their text in the "Legal stuff" appears to be wrong as if you follow the link to the tariff guide the costs are nearly at the higher of the price points (although it appears they round them up).

Think someone has taken the wrong figures from somewhere for that part.

I took the details form their Offers section at the bottom (ignoring the offer ends dates).

So which do you believe?

Personally I believe the higher price is the current standard price as per their tariffs and that someone has taken the lower prices from an incorrect source. I don't believe you can give unlimited infinity 1 for £20 except via an offer as £26 is the normal price.

The prices are correct, you have misunderstood what they mean.

The "non-offer price" refers to the "first 12 months" price, i.e. the standard discounted price for new customers - this is not a time-limited or special offer but is always available. The "offer price" is a limited offer that goes above and beyond that. Both prices revert to the same price from month 13.

That makes a somewhat twisted sense - so the non-offer price is an offer price for the first 18 months with the offer price being a better than non-offer offer which then reverts to the standard non-non-offer price...

Ah, forgot they had changed most of their contracts down to 12 months now - so used in the past to them being 18 on the fibre products.
