anyone extended their hub wifi signal via ethernet?

looking to get a stable signal downstairs (the home hub 3 is upstairs at the master socket)

thinking of a plugin.. with through mains socket device to extend it.
We have the printer usiing a now old belkin printer server.
can it be changed from a printer server to be a wi-fi access point too?
the printer is USB only
the house is wired for ethernet, so the ethernet is preferred to having network over powerline.

Anyone done this? and what would you recommend?

Very much doubt a belkin printer server can be repurposed to be a wireless access point,

Believe this ASUS RT-AC51U router at £35 can be set into an access point mode, its a fairly common feature of Asus routers. Its dual band too, and while not the fastest device should suit most people.

I know the belkin printer server has to be replaced to have an all in one device.

maybe between the printer server, and the ethernet to home hub I could connect an access point which has through mains socket?

Access points tend not to have mains sockets, unless you are looking at one of the wireless extender type plugs and the smaller antenna they have can mean less than ideal coverage, good for one room but not great fro reaching across a chunk of a home.

thanks for clearing that up. best to go for a router that can function as an access point then, and connect the printer to the USB port of the router if it is supported, or use the existing printer server on an ethernet port

ok... so we are having to get a new printer...
they are are all wifi now...

which means as I maintain and run the home network, I need a wireless Access Point I can put on the end of the ethernet downstairs.
the Home Hub (version 3) is upstairs where my BT master socket is.

can anyone recommend a wireless access point to put downstairs. and run with the home hub 3?

I usually get computer parts from scan.co.uk as I can drive there, also have Maplin and DSG (currys / pc world)

thinking of adding an IP camera security system as well due to Anti-social behavior in the road.
will need wireless IP cameras and some place to store the footage.
any advice?

Ubiquiti Networks UAP-AC-LR Not the cheapest access point at £99 but generally people rate them very high for range
