BT Price Rise Advice

A quick one, for all of those affected by the Price Rises it is worth giving BT retentions a few calls. On my 3rd call they offered me a decent deal:

Infinity 1, Line Rental, BT TV Entertainment Max (ie sports and HD channels) for £38pm. 12 month contract.

No need for the TalkTalk switch now

I got my price rise e-mail 3 days after I had disconnected.

I'm experiencing the opposite!
I signed up on Tuesday, and on Wednesday they dropped the monthly by a fiver and increased the reward card by £25!
Called them up in the morning to cancel (and reorder later/following day) but the chap I was speaking to agreed to drop my package price by £7 to account for the drop in monthly and increase in reward card.
Tuesday, £34.99/12m and £125 reward card
Wednesday £29.99/12m and £150 reward card

So dropping my monthly to £27.99 brings it very close, and shouldn't effect my quidco, in theory.
Let's not mention that quidco cashback has now since increased from £80 to £110...!

Well it's down to BT if it does or not - after all the deal you have now is not the deal you took out through them.

I called them today and got a £6 increase turned into a £12 decrease fixed for 24 months.

Only ever used BT for LR and calls , the last time the price increased i left , and never looked back

No idea how it all works internally with the cashback. As the order from placement to completion has taken place entirely with no need to contact them by other means, it should still pay out. I don't know if for whatever reason BT won't pay out the cashback by changing my discount after connection. Tbh I'd rather risk losing the cashback than cancelling and reordering, as I've seen things go wrong when people have done that!
Of course, I wish I 'gambled' and waited til the offer ran out to see what it was the following day, save this hassle, but oh well!

@gomezz nice! As long as you'll be happy staying with them 24 months it's not a problem, as you can leave the contract early without penalty if they increase prices beyond what you are happy with down the line!

I looked in my online account and there was an offer of Infinity 2 and line rental for £33

If I go to bt.com/myoffers with my mums account she gets an offer of Infinity 2 inc rental for £37.49 over 18 months.
It seems the link within your myBT now directs there so the offer you've got will probably be the same whichever way you get to the page.

Still, Infinity 2 and rental for £33! Nice!

The deals by retentions are slightly better, but only once you ask to speak with the manager (in my experience).

That's impressive price! I've just gone & checked on their website... best they can do is £53.49 for Unlimited Infinity 2 with free SmartHub.

I was offered Infinity 1 for £27.99 on 18 month contract, £25.99 on 24 month contract and Infinity 2 for £33.49 on a 2 year contract.

I specifically rang and asked for cancellations, when they offered me deals such as Infinity 1 for £39.99 I asked if they could speak with a manager - then the good deals started flowing.

Give it a try.

Just logging in to my mums account, it does offer £53.49 for Infinity 2 with a Smart Hub, over 12 months, but there is a yellow banner underneath stating "Log in to see your personalised deal", which is where I get the £37.49 over 18 months, with no new hub.

Not tooooo bad a deal, but one could switch to Plusnet for £32.50/18mth and get cashback* too. I just don't trust the Traffic Prioritising. The website makes it sound as though it is applied on a per line basis, ensuring that someone p2p'ing won't upset someone else streaming in the house etc. I'd love to know if the low priority traffic gets allowed line speed if there is no other traffic, or if it is slowed all the time or during peak time regardless.

*cashback should always be seen as potential and not guaranteed!

You don't need to worry about plusnet and P2P. The days of them deliberately slowing it are long gone.

As I'm in the middle of switching to BT Infinity 1 now (from AAISP yes, perhaps sounds bizarre, but trying to cut costs!), that could end up being what I do, hopping between BT and PN, but of course it depends what deals come up come contract renewal, and what retentions offer.

i keep checking in my offers to see what goes on and it seems the offer goes up and down like a brides nightie however today it once again says.

We're offering you Unlimited Infinity 2 with line rental at £33.49 a month, as a thank you for being with BT. That's 40% off our standard price.

18 month?
Still says £37.49/18mth on my mum's...Clearly preferential haha.

yeah it is for 18 months but given you can now sod off if they make any price changes its made the contract all but pointless.

Exactly why i agreed to the same deal when it popped up on my BT offer page!
I doubt deals elsewhere will get drastically cheaper so it's likely I'll see the contract through.

And the grass isn't always greener...

Thing is if they stopped messing around with the prices, balanced it all out to one price that wasn't overly mental everyone would be happy.

I moved back to BT in 2011 when FTTC became available and i have been extremely happy with the service, the only time i consider leaving is when these duckarsed price rises appear whos sole purpose seems to be to make the offers look better.

What kind of an organisation offers one customer Infinity 2 and line rental for 33 quid and the next customer infinity 2 and line rental for 52 quid (which is what they keep offering it to my mate at), when you go shopping you don't expect to get a weeks shop and then be charged a random price at the checkout, the way BT is selling broadband is insanity.

I do agree with you. When I signed up in early feb, the deal on the BT site for Infinity 1 was £39.99/12mth with a £125 reward card. I did this through quidco and it brought it down to £34.99/12mth. Infinity 2 at the time was £49.99 BT and £44.99 quidco.

The day after, BT dropped to £34.99/12mth with £150 reward card, or £29.99 through quidco with the reward card.
After that one ended...
BT dropped to £29.99/12mth with £125 reward card, quidco £28.49.

I've been connected less than a month and I am now paying less per month than I signed up for originally, for Infinity 2 rather than Infinity 1, albeit over 18 months rather than 12.

I doubt these prices are sustainable, especially once you include the reward card and the cashback. They can only do it because the vast majority of customers are paying full price because they are unaware/ignorant to the fact that cheaper prices are available if they look around or haggle.

Same goes for Sky/Virgin, electric and gas etc.

I highly doubt Sky would offer 50% off packages for 12 months and an account credit without much fuss, if everyone did it.

That said, I couldn't recommend BT to someone who I knew wouldn't be up for hoop jumping every year.

BT are not offering me anything lower than £41.49 per month for 18 months. Considering moving to Sky now as they have a £35 per month offer at the moment.

Im pretty sure i am now paying less for Infinity 2 and line rental than what i was paying for Infinity (no 1 or 2 back then) and line rental in 2011 when i joined BT, it's all a bit crackers.
