BT doing a Plusnet on Market 1 areas?

[link to this post]

Coming to end of 18 month EE 38 Fibre and Phone contract.
Saw BT doing Infinity 1 deal at £31.99 + card cashback.
Go to check online and with broadband checker price jumps to £34.99 for same deal.
Only reason I can think of is I'm in a Market 1 area (Shirwell). I know Plusnet and others do this but now BT too?

I'm seeing £34.99pm + £150 reward card irrespective of whether a market A or market B exchange.

Where did you see it at £31.99? It could be that it is an offering through 3rd parties rather than direct on the website (I believe ThinkBroadband are able to offer better deals at times than are available direct).

Update to post by OP

I think £31.99 quoted was ISPReview price but eventually did better deal with MoneySaving Expert.
Their deal link for those interested ends today but came in as
£27.99 pm with free activation plus the £150 mastercard.
I could have got £105 cashback via Quidco but thats not guaranteed.

BT is expressly forbidden from charging differential prices for the same product in different areas, by nature of its Ofcom regulation. This is why they are more expensive, among other factors - they have to equalise the costs of serving lots on Market A exchanges.

If they were doing this (which they aren't), they would be in a hell of a lot of trouble.

If what you say is true, which I don't believe it is, how can PlusNet (a BT owned company) charge different rates for Market A and Market B areas and not be in breach of these OFCOM regulations. In fact it was OFCOM who instigated the different exchange classifications to supposedly increase competition in the market, which only resulted in higher prices in rural areas.
