I have noticed that every time I make contact with BT through the online chat service for help with a broadband problem for several weeks after I get bombarded with spam phone calls and scam emails. Now I will happily admit that this might just be a very unusual coincidence but as this has happened the last 4 times that I have used the chat service I am beginning to think there must be a link.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Have you thought about purchasing a landline phone with a call barring facility?

Have you got BT Call Protect turned on?

I have used the CPR Call Blocker for some years and it is quite efficient. However these Spammers keep rotating the numbers they use so as soon as you block one they change the number.

Hmm. As BatBoy says, if you haven't got Call Protect turned on, that could be why you're receiving them.

Thank you for your replies, what I was trying to establish was has anyone else found that after using the BT chat service were they getting spam calls and emails. As I understand it having call protect on will not stop scam emails and I very much doubt it will do any better a job at stopping spam calls either.

Exactly, I'm confused.

Easily done.

I don't know if this is a coincidence or not, but over the last week or 2 I've started getting a lot of spam calls too.
I'm on the call protect service so I'm adding the numbers as they call. But yea, for some reason the number of calls have increased.
I've not recently contacted bt.

Believing my second handset (the first has a display malfunction) had gone dodgy, I bought a BT 8610 system.
Since connecting it a couple of weeks ago, my rate of spam phone calls has gone from eight or nine a week to zero. That is without making any adjustments to the out of the box settings. (I have added contact phone numbers, that's all).
Frankly I didn't believe (from reviews) that it could be that good.
It is.

But does "Call Protect" protect you from calls from BT spammers?

Well, I had a call from BT, no number & it was blocked, but you do have option to accept call.

Thats what it does

BT's customer facing sales, marketing and technical teams will all provide their number - it may be generic but will never be "number withheld" so I very much doubt if it was a legitimate BT call.

I have had the earlier model BT8500 for quite some time. No spam calls at all any more

|

Thats what it does
So BT create a service to block themselves from their customers?
Genius!

Try thinking about what has been posted and you might find you need to edit your message. Calls from BT do not have their number withheld, those with a withheld number and claiming to be from BT are spam and should therefore be blocked.
