Does BT Ultrafast (G Fast) require an engineer visit?

G fast has just become available on our cabinet. Does installation need a home visit from an engineer? Slightly nervous as we have a non-standard master socket installed by prev occupants of house and don't want the hassle of Openreach saying they have to replace it.

yes it does, and the visit will resolve non standard wiring e.g. homes with odd wiring creating bridge taps will have a very negative impact on G.fast speeds

Replacing and fixing that is part of the G.fast install

Ok thanks. I'm guessing that when they see non-standard face-plate (very non-standard - faceplate has an ethernet and phone socket) they will charge for switching to a BT face plate?
I think I may just stick with FTTC...

They replace it with a standard master socket, and there would only be an extra charge if you got them to figure out and wire in any telephone extensions

G.Fast installs require the newer NTE5C and SSFP.
Basically the newer rounded master sockets.
