Hi all
Just transferring to BT from TalkTalk. Signed up for BT Full Fibre 900 and I got sent the Smart Hub version 1 not SH2 like most other people signing up at the moment. Whilst I quite like the idea of getting the SH1 as I can separate the wifi channels (can't on the SH2) I'm wondering whether it is a mistake. Could other folk clarify?
1)Will the SH1 be able to handle full fibre 900.
2)Besides VOIP and the inbuilt mesh system in the SH2 both of which I don't need, is there any other benefit to the SH2 that I'm missing?
3) I've got around 8 items connected by ethernet and another 20 by wifi not all used at the same time but still connected. Four people hammering the internet at the same time downloading and streaming. Question is, are both versions equally capable at handling that volume and load?
Appreciate advice and comments.
Thanks
Barney

I am not too sure if the SH1 would be able to handle that speed, I might be wrong, but my old SH1 was struggling with 300Mbits when downloading at full speed for a while, but it might of been my hub.
I say you could either phone BT up and ask for a SH2 and then return the SH1 back to them when the SH2 arrive or you could just wait and try it and see, if you have issues with speeds and stability then phone and ask for a SH2.

The SH1 won't handle 900Mb over PPP.
Get BT to replace the SH1 with the correct SH2.

Did they ask for the Smart Hub 1 to be returned ?

Didn't seem to care to he honest. No mention of returns until I asked, he said I can drop it off at the post office or possibly at the EE shop. But nothing about providing a returns envelope. I'll keep them both for a while and see how it goes then I'll return one.

If you need it , the SH1 can be used as an additional WAP.

Yeah I was going to say if they don't ask for it to be returned, don't mention it, that way you might be able to use it just for an extra WAP for weaker areas of the home.

Good idea. Was thinking of using my current TPlink VR900 V2 as an additional wap. SH1 better you think?

There's a green envelope in the SH2's box .
I doubt if anything happens if you don't return it. It's more likely it is to comply with EU, and now UK, law about providers of electrical/electronic equipment having to make provision for its recycling.

Or just a FreePost Label ! It all goes a little way to minimising waste as BT will recycle it properly - or even refurbish for their own spares holding.
I did a recent return to BT of old 2-wire hubs, Huawei and ECI modems plus numerous filters/splitters and phone cables. One box, one label and into the Post Office, it also saved me a trip to the local tip where there is an electronics skip!
