BT 4G Assure - use sim with 3rd party router

Hi,

We're looking to purchase BT Business Fibre which comes with '4G Assure' where BT's 4G data dongle will automatically provide internet access if the main line goes down for whatever reason. We would be using our own Draytek router (or something similar) rather than the supplied BT Hub.

From what I've read, the 4G Assure dongle can only be used in the BT Hub, however is there a possibility of removing the sim and using it in say a Draytek (or another router with a sim slot), or alternatively putting the sim in a universal dongle and putting that into the USB slot of the Draytek and then the sim/dongle provides internet if the main line goes down?

I had a look at one of these '4G Assure' dongles about a year ago and there was no sim, it appeared to be integral to the dongle.

The certainly is a SIM, I have three of them here with BT SIMs, one probably Vodafone and two EE

The OP may well find it only works when installed in a BT hub.

I’m with BT Business and have the 4G Assure dongle. As dect says, It’s an integrated USB dongle - I’ll post some photos later on. I’ve already tried the using it on a third party router and doesn’t work. But I’m not sure why you can’t use the BT router in an emergency, considering it’s not something you’ll be doing very often (if at all).

4G Assure I cannot help with.

BT just sent me a 4G Mini Hub and it's a sealed unit not knowing if a sim is in there or not.

There's definitely no removeable sim.

If its the same as the the ms2372h, then its a case of removing the screws..

Since when has BT supplied Vodafone SIMs?

Prior to BT buying EE the "BT Mobile" operator used Vodafone and that contributed after the purchase.

If you look at older BT SIMs the MNC within the IMSI indicates Vodafone.

Though whether the 4G assure dongles are the same is perhaps a different question.
