Moved from Plusnet ADSL to BT FTTP

[link to this post]

Today I have had BT FTTP installed. At what point will my old Plusnet service cease? Do I need to cancel it myself or is this something BT will deal with?

Thanks smile

Nothing to do with BT. Your migration order should automatically cease your Plusnet connection, but given Plusnet's frequent cockups on such matters I would be ringing Plusnet Accounts. Not the help number. That's if you are still allowed to know the accounts number.

It could be overnight before Plusnet action anything anyway.

You should have had an email from Plusnet very soon after you placed the order with BT, telling you when you would be leaving and what payments if any would be outstanding. If you haven't had one, check for the Plusnet email address they gave you when you joined them. Not the one you've been getting invoice notifications on.

Connections: OnePlus 8 Pro, 4G+ (LTE) max 165Mbps down, 24Mbps up on Three Mobile, and B311 4G+ router, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

I have just had FTTP installed but as it was a new order and a new FTTP line ie there was no migration even for phone number, my existing service is still running until I cancel it (which I plan to do as soon as I setup VOIP phone)

If it was a migration Plusnet would have contacted you informing you they knew you were leaving and the service should cease the same day the FTTP goes live.

If you didn't migrate, it won't cease at all.
You will need to give Plusnet 30 days notice that your area leaving so they can cease the line.

What have you done with the landline number? Moved it to BT ? or Left with Plusnet?

If left with Plusnet then nothing will happen - and if you want to reatin teh number port it to VOIP

Thanks. Looks like I'll have to ring them and cancel. Is this normal now as I thought the new supplier handled all this when you change broadband provider?

If I explicitly tell PN I've moved to FTTP and to cease their service, it won't cause the FTTP to cease as well will it?

Ref the landline, I just ordered FTTP without it.

You have not changed provider, you have added another connection. Had your ordered FTTP with the original number then yes it is likely it would have resulted in cancellation

DO you want to retain the landline number? If so, port it to VOIP and that should trigger a cease too, which you can follow up with PN to confirm.

Plusnet will know nothing about your FTTP service as your phone line is not associated with it. You haven't migrated away from Plusnet, BT have not taken over the phone line so you will need to cancel the Plusnet service, when I did it it was 14 days notice. Cancellation will not affect the FTTP.smile

What if you wanted to keep both though?
A provider can't just randomly decide if they are going to give you a whole new connection or to do it as a migration.

You don't need to transfer the number either for it to be a migration. That's a common misconception.

I've just migrated from BT FTTP to Talktalk FTTP.
The Talktalk FTTP is data only and comes with no phone number. As I asked Talktalk to migrate my existing service, they did this.

You now need to contact Plusnet and give them 14 days notice you are leaving.
Do not even mention you have FTTP.
They cannot cease it.
Mentioning your FTTP will simply complicate matters.

Edit: Plusnet want 14 days notice for residential broadband connections and 28 days for business connections.

Well. i rang plusnet up and told them about me leaving. They're happy to end the service tomorrow, and, as I'm going fttp with BT they waived the early cutoff charge (i had 3 months left with pn). Although BT did say they would pay upto £300 to end their contract. So luckily all good, i will be more careful next time tongue
