FTTP Via BT only?

[link to this post]

A friend of mine is on TT and currently can only get around 40-50mbps.

BT website shows he can now get 100/500/900 Mbps but this only shows on the BT site.

Is this going to always be BT only product or will other providers be able to sell FTTP to his address in the future?

Virgin Media
Connection Speed: DL: 1.2Gbps UL: 55Mbps
Speed test: 940Mbps DL

It’s most definitely is not a BT-only product - it’s an Openreach wholesale product and other ISPs are definitely available to order.

It's possible that only BT Wholesale have connected to the headend exchange, though this is something that will fix itself with time. The more likely scenario is that TalkTalk just haven't updated their database yet.

No worries.

As @jpm has noted there are various reasons why not all providers will be available at a given address, sometimes initially, whilst updates ripple through various databases and ordering portals, and other times because genuinely the ISP doesn’t have any (or enough) of the requisite onward connectivity (backhaul and Cablelinks) in place to reach their network - this can can a variable amount of time to resolve weeks/months not uncommon.

Keep an eye on the various ISP order checkers. Or call them as you say.

If BT is available then any provider who uses BT Wholesale (as BT do) should be available. That's literally hundreds of ISP's, including the likes of Plusnet, Zen, Cerberus, AAISP and many many more

It just means a few of the big players that don't use BT Wholesale backhaul may not be available (yet). That includes Sky, Talktalk and Vodafone.

BT are never the only option. If BT is available then so are providers who also use BT Wholesale.
