Hi
I have just bought a new flat and there is this BT Openreach box there.
Hopefully this link will show you a picture of it.

Can anyone tell me what it is?
Thanks
Matthew

Looks like an FTTP ONT (I am assuming that under the flap is the incoming fibre line and that on the left as you look at that image there will be an ethernet port that a cable would plug in to that would then be connected to the router. If that is correct then you could sign up with an FTTP ISP and that would be the box where the service would be connected from.

It is an Openreach ONT (Optical Network Terminator). Several different brands/models are used which provide a Full Fibre Service (FTTP) to the property.
From the lights it appears to be active so you could order FTTP from an ISP, speeds up to 1Gbps are usually available but also lower speed services which will be cheaper. The ISP will supply a router to connect to the ONT.
What are you waiting for, get an order in

Matthew Thats a Huawei ATB2111 that contains a Nokia ONT (used for FTTP) as others have said so you should be able to order a gigafast service from a provider who uses Openreach infrastructure.

Thank you everyone.
Its been put in a cupboard by the hot water cylinder! Not sure how I would get a router connected to that location!

Its been put in a cupboard by the hot water cylinder! Not sure how I would get a router connected to that location! Most half decent developers provide a basic level of structured cabling which allows you to put your router in say the living room rather than the cupboard

Your router can be anywhere you want, it just needs an ethernet cable to the ONT, it shouldn't be too difficult. I would rip the place apart to get an FTTP service, but no sign of it coming to my area yet.

Why is there a dirty great hole in the wall in a new build flat? Are the developers coming back to repair it?

That's the hole for the future Cat5 cable from the ONT to the router 😂

That's the hole for the future Cat5 cable from the ONT to the router 😂 Some developers get away with murder these days. OP should have a snagging list and that hole including the wall finish should be on it.

In my experience the only way to make a builder sit up and take notice is to keep a tight hold of the retention monies until the defects and snags and complete. To my satisfaction.
Even then sometimes it's not enough. Don't ask how I know 🙈

The hole is one of the better features of the flat!

The hole is one of the better features of the flat! Can't believe that's the case in Amersham, its lovely there especially remember 'The Chequers' watering hole.

Ah, I need to update my location, the flat is in Leeds!

How many accounts on here do you have…? 🤣

I'm confused, are they the same person?
What I do know is, there's a huge difference between beautiful Amersham and [Dect censored] Leeds 🤣

MPJ and Coalhill are the same. I thought I had stopped using my MPJ account as I was unable to log in to the forum on my phone / new laptop. But it seems my old computer was still logged in as MPJ. Sorry for the confusion and mystery. Yes, Amersham was lovely, I lived there for 59 years, but have now moved to Yorkshire, and have a small holiday flat in Leeds!
