problems with routers. ideas on next thing to do?

[link to this post]

just hope my connection stays up now.
been wrestling with my router for a couple of months of it disconnecting and it not auto connecting back.
netgear have borked the firmware and discontinued the app so only the web interface on it is a way.
have to keep turning it off and on... and sometimes hard resetting it.

loathed to replace it, as I want to change to the new full fibre network in the area.
currently in contract with bt till november.
so a new router for 8 months till november or 7 october if I get the new network installed, and have a month overlap to avoid any downtime.
new network (brsk) will be a new fibre router (rented from them), instead of openreach based bt using vdsl to the cabinet.

home hub 3 and openreach modem is slower than the netgear, and had the occasional re-sync.

netgear was solid and quicker, till firmware updates borked it.
there are posts in netgear's forum of other ppl having the exact same problem as I do.

netgear router is the nighthawk X4S D7800
netgear don't support it anymore.

I get 73 down and 16 / 17 up on the connection with the netgear when its up.

only way tonight I got it back up was hard resetting it and running the bt diagnostics bot using the text shortcode.
then its stayed up from turning it off and on.

what should I do?

I rather suspect it may eventually go down when live streaming to twitch (I do music)

[update]
after wrestling it tonight, it is less reliable to staying up, and I'm posting this update using the mobile network.
just getting frustrated with it.

I’d contact BT and get a router that is working to spec. If necessary use one of your other routers as a repurposed wireless point alongside the BT router.

I did online chat to tech support.
they're sending a smart hub 2 out, to replace the home hub 3 / openreach modem

anything to be aware of with the smart hub 2?
any known issues?

I don’t like the way wireless functions on the SH2 hence my comment about using a repurposed router as a wireless point but see who’s you get on with it first.

the wireless 5ghz (2.4 not affected) with my own router drops when the vdsl drops
also it mostly happens around 2am - 2.30am but not limited to that time range.

being that the master socket is upstairs, is there any benefit to positioning of the smart hub 2, to push more signal downstairs?

when I only had the home hub 3, I found placing it face down allowed it to push the signal slightly better to where it was needed downstairs
but overall the signal was rubbish.

Log into the SH2 goto Advanced, then Technical log and copy and paste the data. If you have been doing lots of reboots and disconnects your connection may have been profiled to a lower speed.

engineer got the speed back to almost what it was. Apparently there was a fault being worked on all this week which was the cause.
cable with lead parts being replaced as part of it.

so now in the training/stabilisation process for 3 days (couple of days left)
