Switching provider relative to contract end date..?

[link to this post]

My BT contract finishes on 4th July when the monthly charge will go up a fair whack frown
I've not had any issues with BT in the 2 years I've been with them, but shopping around there are lots of good deals Vs BT

I know I have to give BT 30 days notice, but am I right in thinking I don't have any control over this when switching as the new provider will take around 14 days to switch me to them regardless and I'd have to pay BT for the rest of the month

So roughly when should I press the order button in relation to my contract end date? Would it work out cheapest to do 30 days before the contract end date? That way I only have to pay about half a month at my current BT price?

Thanks

Have you given their customer retentions department a call?

You only pay for what you use these days. Any days you have paid for after switchover date will be refunded. Start the switch no sooner than 13 days before your contract end date, no need to contact BT.

Oliver.

You do not have to give your provider 30 days notice.
In fact, if you are migrating to another provider on the Openreach network then you do not give ANY notice to your current provider.

You only need to give 30 days notice to CEASE your service. If you call BT to give them 30 days notice then they will place a cease order on your line. That cease order will prevent/block any migrations you order with a new provider from progressing.
If that happens, on the day you are due to switch providers your broadband will go off completely and would need ordered again, taking a couple weeks to be reactivated.

The migration process on Openreach is "gaining provider led". Basically this means that the ONLY thing you do is contact your new chosen provider.
They will contact BT on your behalf informing BT you are moving.
BT will write to you to confirm you are leaving and request any kit back that they loaned to you.

I'm currently on fibre 2 (74Mbps) and it will be going up to £43p/m in July. Meanwhile Sky are offering 150Mbps for £30p/m (not including the April rises). And they only want an 18 month contract.
I am going to wait until BT send out the end of term notice thing (assuming this is due any day now?) and I will see if they have any decent offers available then.
