Leaving BT for EE with a number of months left on contract.

[link to this post]

Hi folks,

I am currently on 500 down full fibre with BT but have to November to run on contract.

A few months ago I rang EE as regards my mobile with them and mentioned about the broadband, they stated that is would be possible to sign up with them without penalty from BT.

I rang BT today, lady wasn't that helpful, would allow me to leave to BT without penalty, but would still bill me the same price of £38.25 for 500 down full fibre.

The thing is EE has it on offer for £34.99 so going to ring then tomorrow, to see if I can get it without penalty from BT and at the lower price.

Another thing will I need a new router from EE or will BT hub do?

Anyone else done the above with a better deal on EE and no hassle from the BT end?

Thanks.

I had a similar experience to yours months ago, moving from a BT 150 to an EE 900. Price is £1 cheaper than BT 900. There are no early exit fees from BT (I suggest you find a way to leave evidence just in case); BT's router needs to be replaced with an EE one.

What I actually got was still a BT line and IP with more speed, but with an EE contract.

Hope this help smile

I moved from the BT 900 / 110 package to EE's latest offering their 1.6Gb Home Bundle without penalty also.

Paying less now as I have three sim contracts with EE so once amalgamated worked out much cheaper.

The speeds are also fantastic.👌👌

Thanks for replies.

Well I have changed over to EE, the cost of the 500 full fibre service is currently on offer at £34.99, I was paying £38.25 with BT.

They couldn't change the price for me would still be £38.25 as I have months left on my BT contract, but as a sweetener EE offered to take £3 off my mobile bill, which I agreed to.

As regards the router they said just to keep using the BT hub that I have, can I just ask if there is any technical reason why it would be better to use the EE router?

When I run a Speed Test on here, it still says BT, normal or not?

Many thanks.
Joe

It probably depends on the hardware between these two routers; I am not sure which is better. I bet nowadays they (BT/EE) share the same PPPoE information.

Other than that, it's completely normal. I believe, technically, you are still on BT's network, but EE sends you bills.

That's how I see it too.

Hi,

I’d honestly say that you should keep using your existing BT Hub.

My EE Smart Hub Plus+ does have Wifi6. But it’s actually been the worst router I’ve ever used (it’s constantly disconnecting devices), even after a replacement.

Yeah the PPPOE information for BT and EE is currently exactly the same, if you had a 3rd party router and made the switch you would most likely need to do nothing at all. BT can access their routers and do things remotely so you would have to change to the EE one I expect if you moved.
