checker speed prediction

[link to this post]

As our exchange slowly trundles towards 21N etc (rfs end of March), the checker speed predictors which used to give me an estimate of about 14Mbps ADSL2 downstream, have suddenly started quoting me 6Mbps.

I'm currenly on a sync rate of 7392, with a stable line profile of adsl6500, and have been for a few years. I know my current router (Draytek 2600G) can't handle ADSL2.

So if I change to a modern router ADSL2+ enabled router, would I be likely to see more speed both from the estimators and when the upgrade goes live ?

what's your downstream attenuation and snr margin ? there are predictors around for the ADSL2+ expectation based on that.

I would expect some gain if you're close to the max speed now. You'll get the speed it can achieve regardless of what checkers say. They are only pre-sales estimators not part of the control system.

http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed2.php suggests 14-18 Mbps on ADSL2+.

Your line appears to be interleaved (7616kbps sync). Do you have any noise on the phone line? Seem to be more errors than I'd expect.

You might want to blur your IP address in that jpeg.

eta: ignore the error comment, nothing wrong for your uptime.

I've always wondered about the errors, but I'm not sure how to test the line for them, apart from the router stats, to see if there is a fault.

Thanks for your help

the errors don't look too high to me, for the uptime. The SNR margin of 12 dB points to more speed being available on a faster ADSL standard.

Is that with it plugged in the test socket ?

No it's just plugged in to the upstairs room socket where it's always been.

I've got a feeling that Zen may have interleaved me when a treadmill was electrically interferring with the router ages ago (it used to knock it off line)

the test socket may show a bigger margin and hence more potential speed.

So a new router will be in order when the exchange is upgraded.
Any faves ?

might do better in the DSL Hardware section, list your requirements as well as ADSL2+ from BT.

Yes, the 2600G is very old design now - a new router today might even get you higher performance on your existing line.

Having bought a Netgear DGN2200, I'm very happy with it, and I'm getting full sync at last.

However, it was academic as BT have shoved the rfs date (should have been today) back to 30th of April.

Grrr !

wink

Glad you got new router sorted. I've also got a 31/3 date, still the same thank god. No news whats going on though. ADSL24 are checking on monday whether its been activated or not. I wouldn't be surprised if its been pushing back again to be honest.

The reasons probably so they get more of the lucky people on FTTC!

Well, according to the ADSL24 checker, and the BT checker, our exchange has been done. smile

Though not with either Sam Knows, or the Plusnet ones

Just have to wait for Zen to contact me

Which adsl24 checker did you use? Theres so many (sign up, package checker, 21cn dates)lol.

It's so confusing, Sign Up checker shows I can get 24mb. package checker shows it's not available, 21cn dates still shows Mar. Another checker on their website says I can get estimated 7.5mb on 21CN and it's ticked, yet the packages I'm allowed is 8mb....

lol.

Sam knows says 31/3 still. Which BT checker you using?

I've tried : http://www.dslchecker.bt.com/adsl/adslchecker.welcome
But I think it's been saying I could get it since December (my old date)

So confusing!! ADSL24 are also trying to sort out what is going on with my C&W LLU enablement. haha

The BT checker in your link gives me this :
Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 5Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 3.5Mbps and 7.5Mbps.

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 6Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 4Mbps and 8Mbps. Our test also indicates that your line could support an estimated ADSL 2+ Annex-M broadband upstream line speed of 1Mbps and downstream line speed of 4Mbps; typically the downstream speed would range between 3Mbps and 5Mbps.

Yeah thats similar to what I get. It used to tell me my enablement date, but it doesn't anymore, I hope it's soon!
