Is it normal for BT to take over 2 weeks to install a new line, is there a way to get one installed quicker?.

The 2 week delay is an Ofcom requirement to prevent slamming - i.e. Tiscally stealing your line.

How can installing a new line be slamming?

It seems to be the norm... see above link for a 2 week delay in installing a new line with Sky...

That's by the same poster as here, two minutes earlier. Hardly independent corroboration .

Oh dear... maybe I should have my coffee before posting, so i'm fully awake.

Neither of us pointed out that Tiscali are unlikely to slam anyone's existing line these days anyway, unless they do it under their current Trading Name.

Business line with expedited install, but would have to be placed as such from the beginning
i.e. pay more and things happen faster

I predicted that we were in a loop

A local loop?

No such product that i am aware of, working with a Telecoms provider and the guys here have been dealing with BT wholesale for 10 years.
Only way of getting a fater line install is with the DSO team and is business affecting.

Plusnet reps have often stated that it is possible but with a cost which I seem to remember was about £100 also refer to this site http://www.goscomb.net/connectivity/broadband/business Expedited Install
Where indicated expedited install is available. Expedited install costs £100 and provides install within 48 hours where exchange capacity is available
|
|
There certainly is ... I have used it in the past and often managed to get a line installed on the next working day and in a couple of instances we achieved same day. 48 hours (2 business days) is the normal target.

If it requires an engineer, it's unlikely BT will be able to shift it as OpenReach have to treat everyone fairly now.
If it doesn't need an engineer, sounds like it's taking over the previous CP line at the property... nothing you can do about that, OfCom requirement.
|
|
openreachcan treat everyone fairly by offering all retailers the same expedite options
|
|
Well if there is a option to get a line installed quicker i probably would of paid the £100 at the time, but cause i've waited a week already and there is not long left now until i get the line installed i think i will wait, but if there is a option of getting a line installed faster for none business people it would of been nice to have been told about this by BT or Sky.

Unfortunately I am no longer at the company where we used it. A former colleague would always sort it out - I (or one of my team) just told him what was needed and he called our account manager and people jumped!

There's an engineer free Monday afternoon (as I've told BT to cancel the whole thing, since they forgot to place an order for FTTC on the new line) .
Shame the free engineer (who will now have to go to McDonalds for his afternoon coffee) is in Oxfordshire!

It's completely area dependant, ie some areas have engineers booked up for 1 week in advance and some can have 6 week lead time.
