http://speedtest.btcentralplus.com/beta/ is easier, but I find it very variable and it jumps all over the place during execution..

If it's the "way forward" I hope BT aren't thinking of hiding people's IP Profile!
Perhaps they are just about to bin 'profiles' *dreaming*

"soon" and "BT" - Hmmm...
EDIT: I've just noticed in the page title they are calling it "Speed Tester Lite"

No, BTWholesale are still keeping the IP Profile on the BT Performance Tester: http://speedtest.btcentralplus.com/
And BT Beta Speed Lite are using Speed Lite Test for can run the line for a speed throughput as it trial beta, it won't show IP Profile of course: http://speedtest.btcentralplus.com/beta/
You can run both sites anyway!

Maybe so at the moment, but the notes on that beta page state that it is a beta for the new PT - which one would assume to replace the current PT (the one that reports the IP profile).

That makes no sense.

The new tester was also pointed to in a Fibre post, so I tried it. Before I saw this thread.
What I said about it was:-
That's interesting. Back-to-back tests it gives 3Mbps or so more than the old one. Downloads a lot less data.
A lot easier to use, but I hope it is just a test of concept. If we lose the IP Profile info it will be a retrograde step in my opinion. Although if the IP Profile is going to track the sync rapidly on all connections, as it is now doing on some, I don't suppose it matters too much.

I do agree it make no sense if BTW removed IP Profile but I can understand why BTW want to removed IP Profile because BTW are upgrades the whole 100% exchanges as the new BTW DLM quantisation MSANs (no more ip profile rate) by end of October next month. The sync rate will match 88.2% of your line speed instant without 3-5 waiting for the profile to climb. So, the IP Profile will be no longer in force for all those who are on BT 21CN ADSL2+

That's wrong, isn't it?
They are not removing the IP profile but simply ensuring it updates far quicker on 21CN than as has been seen on Max/20CN.

It stops people worrying about their UPload speeds anyway!?!

That BT for you! Their decision! BT are not interesting on old Max/20CN but I do agree with you Matt, BT should provide all of it Max/20CN and 21CN to make it fairer for everyones.

Probably because BT make no assurances for upstream.
Matt
|
|
|
|
They have minimum acceptable rates, so yes.
Matt
|
|
Getting a bit questionable now as they have no USO unless I've missed something
|
|
This is more throughput related than sync.
On the current PT, you'll see the ranges in which are classed as acceptable for throughput, below that, BT will investigate a throughput issue, although, no guarantee to actually fixing it.

Just ran the beta speedtester and got 0.6Mb/s. Old speedtester immediately afterwards gave 1.6Mb/s. TB's test gives
So I wouldn't put any credence in the new tester whatsoever!
2Mb/s? Not in my lifetime!

Yeah the new BT speed test is rubbish and speed was all over the place, not giving a correct speed. I don't know why is BTW giving us a hard time ?

This new tester is much better for me, it's also flash based rather than jave based.
It looks like it could be single threaded (the flat line in task manager suggests this, see below screenshot) while the current one uses 16 threads.
The throughput for me is much more consistent compared to the current one, which is sometimes consistent and sometimes not. The beta tester runs consistent every time I have ran it.
Here is a screenshot of task manager which was running during the tests, the first peak is the current tester and the second is the beta speedtest.

and the coresponding results.

Other speedtest sites and actual downloads run at the same speed and consistancy as the beta speedtester.
I've found flash based testers far more consistant to java ones so I hope they will implement this asap. I expect the IP Profile reporting to be added when it's out of beta (hopefully).
The service status page recently had a facelift too and it seems to update more often. Nice one BT

very nice reported my connection quite correctly however as im on a 20cn exchange and no date forthcomming for 21cn i hope they leave an ip profile link for us as i quite like knowing my ip profileis correct
i can say whatever i want as i no longer work for the [censored]!

It now been confirmed by BTW that the Performance Tester will be removed from 11th October 2011 due to all exchange to have fully rolled out by the 10th October as it will affect all 21CN MSANs to have the new IP Profile - 88.2% method on the system and instead have to use BT speed test beta. (These will not show any IP Profile anymore)
It mean bad news for those who still on 20CN (stay on old bras ip profile rate between 4 hours and 120 hours will be remain the same for ADSL (up to 8 Meg) and BTW say the customers who still on 20CN (ADSL) can ask their own service provider for the ip profile reported on their line.

ISPreview would seem to suggest otherwise ISPreview - BT SRA is a no-no

It will happen! The IP Profile will be goner on the 11th October the day after BRAS Quantisation was enabled on the 10th October

New 21CN ADSL2/2+ quantisation MSANs had now been completed in all exchanges except 20CN ADSL, the ip profile will be 88.2% from the sync rate instant (no more 3-5 days waiting)
My sync rate is 17543k and ip profile 15473k and throughput speed 14479k
