?
Somebody's been telling you storiiieeessss.

Unless your 3.5Mbps is caused by bad wiring, which given who you are I rather doubt, you won't see any significant difference on ADSL2+. You may even find worse stability.

Forcing ADSL2 may give you a fraction more than either of the other two, with stability much as now.

downstream attenuation is 53db so according to some documents and a table that is linked on here should see small increase and hey small is better than none, and yes im well aware that it may actually cause things to be worse but hey lets waite till may next year before i start popping the champers corks

Just checked the BTwholsale availability checker and as follows

Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL Max broadband line speed of 2Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1.5Mbps and 4.5Mbps.

Your exchange is planned to have ADSL2+ by 31st May 2012. Our test also indicates that your line currently supports an estimated ADSL2+ broadband line speed of 3Mbps; typically the line speed would range between 1.5Mbps and 5.5Mbps.

currently syched at 3904

router stats as follows
VPI/VCI 0/38
Type PPPoA
Modulation ITU-T G.992.1
Latency type Fast
Noise margin (Down/Up) 6.4 dB / 7.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up) 53.0 dB / 28.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up) 18.9 dBm / 12.5 dBm

my best ever synch has been at 4.1 however rock solid stable synch is around the 3.8 mark.

so here's looking for some luck.

downstream attenuation is 53db
With ADSL2+, it will increase to about 56 dB with a corresponding loss of about 0.5 Meg Sync (say from 4.1 on ADSL to 3.7 on ADSL2+).

I get the feeling you are talking about throughput rather than connection speeds? If so, maybe a 500mbps connection improvement. Good luck anyway. I hope I'm being over-pessimistic smile !

You probably put onto ADSL2 instead and won't gain any difference! Only a slighty tiny 450Kbps extra!

You quibbling over fifty kps? Change your nick to adslmin tongue.

Ayway, as you well know how the forum links work, what kind of an answer was that to "What router have you got?"? I'm on VDSL2 so unlikely to get any increase, not even 450kbps, by going to ADSL2. Even if it were possible!

Also I didn't expect you to pick up my reply so quickly, and have substantially edited it. Have a read of how it now is.

While the increase you hope for is not impossible, particularly if your line is stable and handles a 3dB target margin under WBC. I would be more prepared for perhaps 0.5 Mbps more.

Where you will hopefully gain is the old slow IP Profile system being replaced by an immediate system.

It's (sort of) ironic that those people on bog standard 20CN ADSL are stuck with the 'old' IP Profile system - these are the people often on the worse lines and are being hit on the head by also having to put up with the painful profiling rules! frown

If only BT could rework the IP Profile system. So that people on dodgy slow lines could start their router in the morning and get a fair throughput from their connection speed throughout the day. Knowing perhaps things will suffer as darkness and noise increases - but at least also knowing that the next day when they connect they will be 'allowed' the best throughput again until things deteriorate.

Rather than the current system where lots of lines are put on a permanent 'go slow' frown

Ignored that 0.1 bit

Was talking about the 3dB rise meaning a 0.5Meg loss.

What should happen is that the modem only use ADSL2 mode if this was to happen, alas the logic in modems often fails, which leads to this idea that ADSL2+ raises attenuation.

The attenuation on the bins up to 1.1Mhz is still the same, but you need to account for the 1.1Mhz and above with ADSL2+ mode.

I stand by my statement, backed by Kitz:
It is also worth pointing out that attenuation is calculated differently for adsl and adsl2+, and its not unusual to see an increase of 3-4 db when moving from adsl1 to adsl2+.
He predicts:
Downstream Attenuation 53 dB

dslMAX 4128 kbps

adsl2+ (21CN) 4320 kbps
vs.
Downstream Attenuation 56 dB

dslMAX 3424 kbps

adsl2+ (21CN) 3712 kbps

But it doesn't! We have often seen users on long lines being auto modulated on ADSL2+ and we have advised that switching to ADSL2 only would prob gain them Sync.

That would be because Kitz site has just one curve for the speeds, and thus is reading them off, I do the same. Can't do much else as there is no firm data to allow people to do otherwise.

Agreed! That's the only sensible way to predict.

Even if you took the Max curves you would have ADSL = 4.6 Meg @ 53 dB attn. to ADSL2+ = 4.0 Meg @ 56 dB.

He is a 'she' and said ADSL2+ calc is not especially accurate (few are). I tend to look around at many and take the average of the lower half results as a prediction, then anything else is a bonus.
