My first post on here so appologies if im wrong place, too vague etc.. My local exchange BRECHIN has finally been upgraded to 21cn from what i can tell late last month. By using BT site checker ive noticed a few friends numbers are getting new speed of 17-20MB some only a few streets away but im still getting the standard 8Mb. Been getting 8MB since i moved to the property 4 years ago. When using Samknows it says i should only get the adsl2+ is enabled on exchange, im 0 miles from exchange but i should only get 1MB nevermind the +8Mb i would be hoping for. Any thoughts on whethter i will get any faster speeds if so what sort of timeframe?

down to your ISP, some migrate automatically, others don't. Of those that say they do some manage to miss customers out - around me there are BT Broadband customers who were upgraded after we went 21CN and others that were not.
20CN services carry on in parallel to 21CN, the latter brings new kit and your wiring has to be physically moved over.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Should point out that the BT site checker is giving estimates not actually confirming that their line has been switched.
What is your connection connection speed, attenuation and noise margin from the ADSL router. These can give a fairly accurate idea of what speed is possible if you switch from ADSL to ADSL2+.

How do I get those details? By going in through the router page or is there a site thing for that?

It is part of the routers pages

Hope this is the right info.
Upstream 448 (Kbps.)(Kbps.)
Downstream 8128 (Kbps.)
Upstream Downstream
Noise Margin 31.0 dB 14.9 dB
Line Attenuation 16.0 dB 23.5 dB
|
|
Normal speed range at 23.5dB attenuation is 17400 Kbps to 19000 Kbps from ADSL2+ is what I'd expect
http://www.coolwebhome.co.uk/calc/calculator.php suggests possibly even faster
