I have been waiting a long time for FTTC, as have plenty of people. In the past 8 months it had Inverness macdhui exchange ready to roll on the 31st of March, checked again today, its changed to the 31st of June..... why do they do this?? it is infuriating.

It may be nothing to do with this forum - BT Wholesale DSL Implementation. It is much more likely to be to do with Openreach exchange and cabinet FTTC enablement.
As the previous poster said, lots about this in the Fibbre forum. Quarter end dates are pretty meaningless, more like a wish-list than a delivery schedule . They very often slip by a quarter or six months during the last week or so of the quarter.
For it to slip during the second month looks like a serious issue has turned up.

Had a call from BT today about this and apparently the slip in date is something to do with BT not being allowed to publish quarter end dates that they might not reach. They are therefore being cautious and setting 6, 9 or 12 month dates but cabinets may be active before these new pessimistic dates.
Apparently all going well it'll be June/July this year.

This is a response Openreach gave a forum member via the nga email.
"The change in dates on the website is as a result of the recent Advertising Standards Agency ruling –Openreach will be moving to provide a six-and-nine-month view of when exchanges will be enabled to improve the accuracy of this data when it is presented to end-users by CPs.
However, the deployment plan remains the same – the majority of people who were given a March date will still be able to receive service by that point, we are just unable to provide a three-month view any more as a result of the ASA ruling.
Whilst in most cases we were able to forecast an accurate date, deploying fibre is a complex engineering job which involves planning consent in some cases, power provision, traffic management, etc. Therefore there will always be the potential for unexpected delays to occur for an individual cabinet. Moving to a six-month view reduces the impact of such delays on our predictions.
Also this bit from the Openreach where and when site in the FAQ.
In order to avoid repeatedly delaying these cabinets, we have moved their due dates to the end of our commercial programme to reduce multiple changes to the likely activation date. We will continue to seek solutions for these cabinets and where possible will activate them before the end date given.

So because of complaints about the number of cabinets getting dates frequently put back, (althoughit seems that the majority are on time or early otherwise the overall target would have gone back as well, rather than having been brought forward dramatically), we now get no dates at all other than "we expect still to meet the target date for the rollout".
Great. Well done the jobs-worths at the ASA .

Great. Well done the jobs-worths at the ASA . They were probably driven to it by the moaning minnies and whingers, no doubt including many of those posting to these forums/fora.

See http://www.asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjudications/2013/1/B... Exactly. A response to the whingers many of whom seem to inhabit these forums few of whom seem to understand the potential problems that might be encountered when rolling out such a massive project.

So far no planning application and the FTTC date has been removed from the checker. So for me and ~400 properties FTTC isn't happening any more.

My exchange is quite bizarre. It also got pushed back from March 2013 to June 2013. When I rang BT up in the middle of April about another issue with my broadband I asked the guy about the date and he said that the exchange has actually been enabled (It also says this on samknows, it also says its available in some areas but it isn't) also that the cabinet that will be serving myself work was completed on this in 2012 but said it should be available soon.
So I am not holding out hope for it anytime soon, I will continue in the slow lane (2.70 down and 0.28 up) and use my 3g dongle which is three times faster than my home broadband to download anything I need quickly.
|
|
Done give up just yet. The openreach checker has never given an FTTC date for my phone number but a cabinet has been Installed over the past 2 weeks. Various other cabinets have been installed around town as well but when I check phone numbers of friends and relatives it also says no date
|
|
After I finally worked out how to navigate the new Canterbury Council web site I have found that the location of the cabinet has been approved the second time with a 'better' location.
Approval
Plans
So I don't understand why my line/address has gone from the checker but it might only be a few months before the cabinet goes in which would be more in-line with estimates I've been given from OR.

The bit that confuses me more is how the council was able to refuse it previously but has decided it doesn't require prior approval now. Prior approval would be required in conservation areas only so unless the conservation area changed it should still need prior approval.
Given the Growth and Infrastructure Act, which took away the council's ability to reject cabinets in conservation areas, didn't come into law until 25th April it seems odd.
Oh well, hope it gets built sooner rather than later for you.

Another database change for Oakham but no new information. Previously postcodes would bring up an availability date of March 2014 whereas phone numbers didn't mention fibre. Now neither mention fibre. The cabinets are in. (Not all cabinets but there is one for my area). I saw last week the one round the corner was connected to power. I don't know if the fibre itself has been blown through yet. Can't hear any fans running inside it.
|
|
Can't check my number now as I've moved to Sky and the BT checker no longer recognises it.
On checking my address the March 2014 date has returned.
If the cabinet has been installed then it can't be long before they get it on line. Thing is BT are in no hurry and neither is the Government. The date for ~90% coverage has been put back another 2 years to 2017.

Just realised I meant March 2014!
Don't know if Sky have enabled Canterbury exchange for FTTC. Doesn't matter now for another year.
|
|
Sky have enabled their services on the Canterbury exchange, i wouldnt say BT are going slow at all with the speed of the commercial rollout and the BDUK contracts coming online the rate of progress should continue.

Don't forget we are talking about FTTC enablement, not simple LLU, Sky need to have installed an extra link to take GEA/FTTC, and they are often last of the three.
