ADSL Default sync speeds on 21CN

[link to this post]

A silly question - are there default sync speed steps when the router resyncs
Now the reason -
When my line resyncs the best speed I get is 4192kbps with a 6dB noise margin - not a problem you might think but that gives an IP profile of 3697kbps which Plusnet in their wisdom round down to 3600kbps
Now if my sync speed was 4196kbps trhis would give an IP profile of 3701kbps which wouyld give me a Plusnet profile of 3700kbps
So a miserable little increase in sync speed would give me 100kbps extra effective speed
Note I am on ADSL1 at my request because with ADSL2 I get lower speeds although I have no idea why

ADSL1 has 32k steps. If it isn't banded it syncs at the best it can for the preset SNR margin.

Thanks - that explains why it can't get to the next step.
Pity really

http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/IPprofile.htm says 4192 gives you a 3500 profile (4000 to 4512) on the old 20CN system but I don't know what the ADSL1 on 21CN kludge does in terms of bands.

50.5dB but it is a noisy line
I used to get 4,800kbps but when I was put on a new line from the main cab (I am on a subsidiary cab) it dropped but it fixed the major problem of upstream instability causing resyncs with as low as 192kbps upstream.
The engineer advised that the three main connectors back to the exchange were fairly horrible but that unless things got a whole lot worse BT wouldn't do anything about them

all profiles on 21CN are 88.2% regardless as to whether it is forced onto ADSL1 or not

that doesn't explain the 100k steps you mentioned - is that Plusnet rounding ?

figures, with the 88.2% tracking there would be a higher processing load if they responded to every little fidget.

I wanted them to do what A&A do which is to match it exactly when the line resyncs

perhaps Plusnet is of a scale where the cost / complexity of doing that becomes an issue. Interactions with traffic management platform might be a consideration too.

100k steps can only lose you 5% at 2M and less as the speed goes up so it's not an unreasonable compromise IMHO.

Do you really mean ADSL instead of ADSL2 Jim, or ADSL instead of ADSL2+?

ADSL2 is usually marginally the best of the three at that sort of sync.

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet UnLim Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 51.8/16.8Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

ADSL1 with uncapped upload - ADSL2 was marginally slower
