In reply to a post by sjr:
Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to explain to the SO's teenage son when he throws a hissy fit about Xbox live being slow that Plusnet is actually a decent provider and that there is more to take in to account than just the choice of ISP.

Faster services are now being offered at the exchange by Call Flow Solutions as part of the BDUK project

http://www.callflowsolutions.com/home-broadband/slu-...

Am I right in assuming that the SLU will still use the same link from the exchange out to the internet as the BT Wholesale ADSL products?

If you mean the same physical link then yes, probably. However it could also be that they (Call Flow Solutions) will route the fibre themselves to a bigger exchange which is quite common on smaller exchanges.

That's assuming they own the cabinets themselves and BT Openreach have nothing to do with it (Nothing planned for the exchange I can see on BT Openreaches website).

Even if they use the same link, you wouldn't have to worry because they'll likely have an equivalent of a point-to-point leased line from BTw for backhaul purposes - Other BTw traffic from ADSL kit wouldn't affect it as it would be guaranteed bandwidth - This is if they have their own cabinets.

Telewest (2004-2006): 256Kbps -> 512Kbps
University of Portsmouth's Horrible Network (2013 - 2014) - Supposedly 100/100Mbps
BT (2006 - Present): 8128/448 -> 22494/1211 -> 79987/20000Kbps (BT Infinity 2 on Huawei Cab)

Call flow are a sub look unbundler -- there is no choice in terms ot CP's and you can only by a solution from Call flow -- its is not FTTC (from Openreach) -- look slike KCC took it out of intervention area --

Aha then the backhaul they use (Likely through BTw as there are no other LLU providers at that exchange - if they use it) will be guaranteed to Call Flow (Much like a leased line).

Could be 1Gbps depending on how many cabinets the exchange serves and whether Call Flow use it as a primary exchange (Where all cabinets in the wider area connect to).
You'll need to ask Call Flow about this.

You may also find your exchange isn't where your cabinet is connected to - It could be connected to a larger exchange in the area where all other cabinets connect to.

Even still it may be a dynamic backhaul - They may upgrade it every once in a while as more users & cabinets are added.

You'll find all of Call Flow's cabinets on an exchange are linked (Usually via 1Gbps interfaces) together inside the exchange with a high-end switch which is where they are all connected to the backhaul. So it's very tricky if not possible to determine the backhaul size.

Anyway, it's probably 1Gbps or multiple thereof as their backbone network will more than likely be Ethernet.

Ask Call Flow Solutions - They may tell you.

No need at all for sub LLU backhaul to go via a telephone exchange at all.

Boils down to CallFlow needing to provide details.

Sub Loop Unbundling (SLU) has been around for a while, but itís safe to say
that some communications providers have struggled to make it work for them.

Thatís definitely not the case with Call Flow Solutions, a Kent based CP, which has
grasped the opportunity offered by SLU after completing a hugely successful pilot.
The company is now in the middle of two more SLU rollouts, with even more on the
horizon.

So whatís the secret of Call Flowís success?
