Asking BT to remove the existing drop-wire from the pole which is anchored on the fascia board on one corner of the house, where it disappears through a hole into the roof space and instead to run a new drop-wire to an anchor point on the fascia board on a different corner of the house, from same pole, and running it down and through the wall to a new NTE. Retaining both telephone number, call-sign number and FTTC
I was recently involved with similar for a business line, where BT decided it best to do this via a new telephone number and then move the service. This was for new ADSL My fear should this be the way forward, is that my FTTC port gets used for another customer and my call-sign number ceased since I believe no longer offered?
Cheers!

So, with no mention of the broadband side of things, you contact the supplier of your voice services, and request a ‘ Shift of NTE’ on directory number.
No need to provide full gory details.
Tea, a polite discussion of the relocation and cable run to the Openreach bod on the day .... and that should be that.
p.s. you may need to be firm with the OR person, especially if it’s contractor.

Agreed, especially if its a Kelly Engineer, they love to cut corners by tucking cables under the carpet instead of going round a door frame

Thanks Zarjaz

For the village hall job, the Kelly guy wanted to use a piece of existing drop-wire which was on the building which would have meant two junction boxes. Luckily, being a BT Business line I had been given a number to call if any problem. I whilst he was phoning his guy complaining that I would not let him use the old wire and that the pole was dangerous, it was; it had a red label on it saying so which I had advised when I requested the job, I was on the phone to my girl at BT Business. She won.
Later two proper OR guys arrived with a cherry picker and did a proper job...
Cheers!

I put the request into BT earlier today. Openreach will be attending p.m. on 30th September.
Hopefully Howard an Openreach Engineer who lives up the road rather than a contractor.
Will get some biscuits in!
Cheers!

Will get some biscuits in!
There is a direct equation between the sort of biscuit offered and the job done.
The knack is matching the correct biscuit to the engineer. And don’t be no smart-[censored] and believe a proffered selection tin will cover all eventualities ....
... the game is afoot. I’ll cross my crimpers for a successful outcome for you.
|
|
I was lucky I had the correct amount and also gave the engineer a brand new battery (left behind by a builder several months back) for the exact drill he used.
And I got an awesome install

... but what sort of biscuit ?

Do you really need to ask
I thought we already discussed this before LOL

Looks like Rich Tea or Marie biscuits are not going to cut the mustard then...

(Shhhh. Don't tell anyone I told you).
Zarjaz is referring to, in his case, these.
My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk. Domains, site and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Three 4G, tbb tests normally 35-45Mpbs down, 65Mbps off-peak, 9-24 up.

Well discretion isn’t your middle name now is it Bob.

But it won’t be me doing the deed at AM’s place will it.
Biscuit choice is an important subject.

See this post, which was a reply to the OP about his village hall, and this reply to Paul.

All went well this afternoon. A n Openreach Engineer attended and he did exactly what I wanted. I got in early with the offer of tea/coffee and biscuits. He liked Lidl's "Milk Chocolate Gingers" and didn't touch the Fig Rolls....
The whether was kind, rain had been forecast, but it held off until he was finishing off inside.
So I am well pleased and for some reason I am getting better figures from my DrayTek Vigor 2762ac.
SHOWTIME 17A Fast
Actual 39998 Kbps 7313 Kbps
Attainable 44649 Kbps 7313 Kbps
SNR Margin 8 dB 6 dB
Attn 22 dB 34 dB
Whether those speeds will hold overnight we shall see in the morning.
Anyway, a job well done by Openreach.
I forgot to mention, when I phoned BT Sales and asked for a 'Shift of NTE' they asked what that meant..... The OR Engineer laughed when I told him, he of course knew exactly what it meant. So I guess I should have asked what id BT Sales speak for...... !!
Cheers!

All you need now is Zarjaz's address, so you can send the Newton's Figs, and you'll have a friend for life .
As for BT Sales, that is a really good one! Your new router will arrive tomorrow.
Talk of sending things, I passed a pub today with signs (giving their URL) in the windows saying "Download a free drink here". Openreach much have some new pipelines.

Yeah BT can be very good and quick when they want to.

Yeah I hear they use Transfer Cocktails Purchased - In Pub (TCP-IP) over Transfer Liquor Safely (TLS) LOL

They used to use SSL (Seriously Sloppy Liquor) but they have upgraded their security.
However, my local uses a different form of TCP-IP (Transfer Copious Pints - Intravenously Please).
