TELNET SNR TWEAK

Just bought a Broadcom based adsl router. What is the Telnet SNR command to set min SNR to 3-4db

try adsl configure --snr 6

Careful with a figure as low as that.
If you've a Belkin 7633, that will set your SNR close to zero.
It seems the figure you type in is a percentage of your default SNR (typically 6), so if you want a target SNR of 3, use 'adsl configure --snr50' and tweak down in steps of 5

Nice one Damn, I'd never thought of it that way, I'll have to do some more tests now I reckon that Belkin tweak works in exactly the same way as the Speedtouch one.

One thing the Belkin can do is Tone Masking which would be great fun to experiment with, but the 7633 is too expensive for me

Sub note....
The Belkin 7633 seems to make a habit of re-syncing at higher speeds outside of peak hours, which are unsustainable during the evening peak.
Having monitored my connection for some time, and noticing re-syncs appear to occur when one of the following situations occurs: -
1. SNR close to zero (tends to happen during evening peak), triggers a re-sync (mostly to a lower rate).
2. SNR too high (seems to happen at target + approx. 25%), triggers a re-sync (usually to a higher rate).

The end result of this is a sync speed that changes throughout the day, but we never get to see an increase in data rate (as the sync speed needs to stay high for three days).
So, what is the point in re-syncing at a higher rate when SNR rises?
Is there no way of telling this router not to bother re-syncing if the SNR goes up?
If my router would stop syncing from 4560kbps (evening peak), up to over 5000kbps (off-peak), it may never drop the line, and hold at 4560.

Anyone any thoughts on this?

Are you certain that the SNR margin being high triggers a resync, i.e. does it tend to happen at certain times of day ? A low SNR margin can cause a resync, but doing so because of a high figure is not normal behaviour for a router at all. It could be that you are seeing short bursts of interference on the line during high SNR margin periods that are enough to trigger a resync, but too short for the SNR margin figure in the web interface to react. If that is not the cause, then it could be a router fault or a firmware bug. I have a 7633 myself (using the .11 firmware), but I have not seen the behaviour you describe.

It could be short bursts of noise. If it is, they must be massive and only being picked up by the Belkin, as my old Netgear was totally immune to them (it was able to hold sync, sometimes for days at a time, and could also hold sync at zero margin for ages).
The Belkin, however, will re-sync 3-4 times a day.
Thing is, if it's not the router triggering the re-sync because if high SNR margin, it's going to be near impossible to tell what's causing it (as the Belkin doesn't keep a log of what caused the re-sync).
