belkin 7633 help

[link to this post]

hello,

i have a redundant 7633 lying around, and i want to use it with my broadband connection as a wireless router.

i do not know how to set it up so i can get it working, it is really confusing. all i want to do is connect the modem to the router, the router to the PC (both wired) and have the wireless functionality in order to connect to a wifi device.

i have tried everything, playing around with dhcp on/off, etc, but i only really get two scenarios:

1) can login to the belkin but not the modem
2) can login to the modem but not the belkin.

i dont know why it happens like this....any ideas?!

What IP addresses and subnet masks do you have set in the modem and in the 7633?

thats where i am a little confused.

i understand that i need to turn off DHCP in one of the devices, as both of them having DHCP on will not work.

the modem has ip 192.168.100.1
belkin has ip 192.168.2.1

subnet is 255.255.255.0

and i just dont know how to set it up. i thought all i would have to do is to just connect them up and itll work.

also, what do i need to set the DNS in in the belkin? do i need to point it to the modem?

OK, you need to change your subnet.
192.168.100.1 and 192.168.2.1 are not in the same range so a subnet of 255.255.255.0 will prohibit them from talking to each other, or your PC from talking to the one it's not got the IP address from.

Try this link http://infodeli.3com.com/software/utilities_for_windows_32_bit.htm it has a subnet calculator that may help.

Basically, you have to set the subnet on all devices with fixed IPs, so they can see each other. Or set all IPs in the same range.
With a subnet of 255.255.255.0, the first three blocks of numbers (e.g. 192.168.1) in all IP addresses must be the same.
Or, set your subnet to 255.255.0.0
