d-link dsl 300t & linksys wrt54g - help please

[link to this post]

hi all....

noob question i'm afraid !

I have my above hardware set up...i get internet ok, email ok... but when i try to forward ABc through the router it's jamming up somewhere....(just ABC - internet etc still ok)

The gateway reports the IP address assigned by my ISP (demon) in the status... i noticed on the guide to setting up these very items on this site that it should report an address of 192.168.x.x

I'm not the most techie so i dont know if this is ok or part of my problem?

anyhelp / ideas would be mucho appriciated... let me know if you need any more info to help???

cheers all in advance !!

bad combination of equipment if you're a newbie. If you just bought it take it back and get a combined unit ADSL modem/router/wireless.

unfortunately not an option...

both bits of kit were bought some time ago... the kits used extensively in previous set-ups but never sucessfully together... my kit that i was using didnt survive a recent house move and i'm on a shoestring budget 'cause of the move !! if it's possible I need to get em to work together.. as i said most of it works (and seems to be stable) but the bit torrent thing is doing my nut in... it feels so close to working lol

port forwarding is one thing that your dual-NAT configuration makes difficult. Is it not possible to forward on both in order to get to the target PC ?

you're probably correct. Ethernet modems are oxymorons.

Can you make it work in a different mode, for example PPPoE on the WRT so that it gets the external IP, and some sort of bridge mode on the D-link ?

I had another look - only thing i can see is a DHCP service - which is currently swiched on... although the linksys is showing my external IP in the status not the IP from the modem....

so if the Linkysys has the external IP you should just need to do the port forwarding on that ?
