D-Link DSL-300G+ - Replacement Ethernet Modem??

[link to this post]

My trusty D-Link DSL 300G+ ethernet modem has just gone bang, actually it didn't even do that it just expired with barely a whimper.

I want to replace it of course and it's given me fantastic service with very few problems over the last three years. I live almost two miles from the exchange but with this modem and filtered faceplates with gold plated cables I can almost get my max 8 meg at times so I really have been happy with it bearing that in mind. My main uses are usual www browsing aith a fair bit of BitTorrent for my beloved US TV series + VoIP use.

So question is this, should I go for the new D-Link DSL 320T ADSL2/2+ ethernet modem

http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=3495

or maybe even the ADSL Nation X-Modem.

http://www.adslnation.com/products/xmodem-m3.php

Any opinions or even better - Anyone yet using the DSL-320T ???

No router sugestions please as I have this taken care of and purely need an ethernet modem and yes if you look the choice these day's is very limited.

Possibly a Speedtouch 516 in public IP pass through mode.

funny I was just going to post asking if anyone knew what the differance was between the DSL320T and my DSL300T ? I have this sneaky feeling that all this is a DSL300T with ADSL2+ firmware which we assumed would be released at some point. I do recall however reading that DLink then decided that they would not, probably so they could make more money Call me a cycnic. Anyway ill cut to the chase I have a Dlink DSL300T with adsl2+ firmware that I aquired from a non uk Dlink ftp site and its pretty much rock solid in all honesty. Not on ADSL2+ enabled exchange so can`t confirm if that works or not but i`m willing to test

PS I use this togethor with a linksys wrt54gs and have no trouble whatsoever even with P2P

Yeah that's exactly what I was thinking too, especially as there don't seem to be too many places stocking it right now over the 300T. In fact BroadbandBuyer is the only place I've seen it that cheap, cheaper than the 300T they also stock.

Well in the meantime I've taken my 300G+ to task and got it working again "for now", re-flashed with latest firmware and all seems OK even though when I could not connect to the www it was still obtaining an IP address ?!?

Thanks for comments though guy's, will see how things go over next few day's.

I think SavaStore has a reasonable deal on the 300T and the 320T

Netgear now has a pure ethernet modem, the DM111. Maybe worth a look.

ftp://ftp.dlink.ru/pub/ADSL/DSL-300T/Firmware/ADSL2_plus

there ya go but word to the wise, there is no going back to the firmware that is on the uk dlink ftp server, however I`ve found this version better than what it had before
