Router says no...

[link to this post]

I have a Demon "Express Solo" connection, and the equipment is a Speedtouch 510v3 router - yes it's an oldie, but a goodie - or was. An e-mail came a few days ago from Demon to say that "they are pleased to report that my line has been upgraded to MAX".

I hadn't noticed any down-time, and found that the router was still connected and up, and eagerly looked at the router's stats page, and it said 0/0 for the up and down sync speeds. Eeek!

I turned it off an waited a few minutes, and re-powered it, and waited for it to reconnect. Still says 0/0, but it seems to actually be connecting at about 850kbps down and 350kbps up, according to the Namesco speed test page. Before the "upgrade", it said something like 287/2272. The filter's a proper NTE5 faceplate filter.

Am I to take it then that this modem/router isn't suitable for MAX, as it can't/won't display the sync speeds, even though I'm pretty sure the spec says "up to 8Mbps", or is there something I can do?

That does seem odd. Try a hard-reset of ther router and check if you are running the lastest firmware for it.

Kind Regards

Re: Router says no... update

Tried full reset and reconfigure - no change. No later software than the version that's running - router superceded....

Turns out that the extremely poor speedtest result was mostly due to 802.11b link between PC and router via external wireless bridge. Using a direct cable produces a speedtester result of 3500/350 ...ish, which is much better than before.

But there's still the problem of the router not reporting the sync speeds correctly (0/0 instead of actual sync speeds). Are there any general ADSL settings parameters (like modulation?) than need to be changed between the "old" ADSL and MAX?

Nope, if it worked before it should work now.

Tried borrowing a friend's router/USB modem, to see if it makes a difference?

Kind Regards
