Wireless USB Stick

Hi, I think this is the right forum! For convenience, I'm temporarily planning on sharing my wireless DSL connection with one of my neighbours. They have a PC running Windows 98 with 1 USB port, and to save opening the PC up I thought the following would suffice: -

thats a load of junk, Ive used them and thrown them in the bin it was that bad.

I personally would go for a lan to wireless bridge if the pc has a lan port.

Basically its a box that sits outside the computer transmitting the wireless information thats been sent to it via a wired lan.

Being that the pc is w98 its probably the easiest way to get wireless set up, especially if youre using wpa encryption etc.


So to add to my previous post, bung in a pci lan card too as another suggested

Ive managed to find bridges here and fairly decent lan card here at ebuyer.

Personally think ebuyer isnt very cheap for the bridges but it gives you an idea of what I mean

That's interesting; I haven't seen or thought of that option - had a quick look on eBuyer and they seem quite expensive - any thoughts on a popular cheaper version!

I missed that several doors away, realistically that isnt going to happen unless the whole network is mimo or 802.11 (pre) n. 802.11g doesnt have the range to do that especially with walls in the way.

Have you considered Homeplug? ie: ethernet over mains.

Homeplug does not pass through the electricty meter so no good for the OP.
