585v6 - Setting an ISP supplied Static IP

I've been supplied with a static IP by my ISP.
I use a Speedtouch 585v6.
How do I set the 585 to use the static IP ? I've searched and read what I can find, but I'm none the wiser

It's much more straight forward on my Billion !

You don't have to.
The ISP will provide an IP address to your router in the same way as if it were dynamic (it's just you'll have a static one).

Yeah - see I knew someone was going to say that, and indeed, that's what's happened. I guess it's the same sort of thing as a reserved DHCP address using the MAC address of the NIC, the line must have an "equivelant" identifier

If the 546 is anything to go by, the setting your looking for will only be available via telnet. Speedtouch routers have (possibly) the worst, most basic, web-interfaces I've come across. I get the impression, their intended market is for non-technical users (hence the pretty pictures everywhere) - Shame, as they're such good routers.

I've just been reading the manual as well. My wife got a little concerned by the amount of drool and the catatonic glaze in my eyes so she threw my COBOL manual at me I thought I'd have a look here before I gave up for the night hoping that someone had the answer for already.

COBOL manual? Didn't think anyone still used COBOL. Don't get me wrong, I do, now and again. How you finding the 585 on your long line? Have you thought about switching to MAX as I'm sat in Wootton on a old TPON line and im synced at just under 6000 with one of these 585's .

Haven't used COBOL in years, but the manual comes in handy for a door stop / attention projectile / anti-cat device

I'm on MAX with an Attn of 59 it's taken about 6 weeks for me to get a BRAS profile, lots of interference on the line, probably from the building work that's still going on in Grange Park. I can sync in the low 2500 BRAS profile range, but due to the noise (and next doors jogging machine) I've got a 2000 profile but at least it's better than the 1mbit I used to have, so I'm happy. Gives me the opportunity to play with the technology and the 585 / DMT as well. The 585 is great, although I've not compared it to my Billion 7402 yet. I was waiting until I got a profile before mucking around with that, but the 585 holds sync AND I can use the 'net when the SNR drops as low as 1.5 - 2.5. Get lots of FEC errors but it doesn't interfere with "normal" browsing and email usage, HTTP / FTP downloads work ok too (ok it's a bit slower).

The whole of Grange Park was on TPON until a couple of years ago when BT put the copper overlay on, which was nice of them.
