SpeedTouch 585 firmware update query

[link to this post]

Here is a screenshot of someone I know who has v5 firmware of the SpeedTouch 585:

Here is mine (v6):

As the 'Update' option is missing, if ever I want to update the firmware, how would I go about doing so?

The upgrade wizard is on the CD supplied with the router.

very strange, my speedtouch 585 originally came with a old version not available online and didnt have that in the gui, the 5.4.0.14 firmware available online also doesnt have that in the gui, I would guess that is some kind of oem specific firmware feature.

It certainly isn't OEM - my speedtouch had it before I upgraded the firmware to 5.4.0.11 (latest available for the v5 on the UK website) and it still has it now.

interesting and your 585 is a v6?

doesnt make sense how you have it and I dont. my 585 is on v5 firmware.

I will try flashing it down to 5.4.0.11 from 5.4.0.14 to see if it appears tho.

I was surprised by the firmware version you quoted, but you are right - the current version on the SpeedTouch UK web site
http://www.speedtouch.co.uk/codepages/content3.asp?c=7&ProductID=511
is indeed 5.4.0.11 (ST585v5UK_540B.bin, dated 24.01.2006).

But I have been running 5.4.4.1 (ST585_5441_UK.bin, dated 13.04.2006) on my ST585v5 for several months now, and I'm sure I downloaded that from the SpeedTouch UK web site. It is very stable (I checked just now and I've been synchronised for 32 days so far at 5,376 - not bad for a line on which I was refused an upgrade to 2 Mbps because "the line cannot support it").

It looks to me like 5.4.4.1 has been pulled, but why...?
