DMT tool with Speedtouch 585

[link to this post]

Hi

I have been playing with my Speedtouch 585 this morning but seem unable to make the snr go below 10.
I unticked the default snrm box and moved the slider right down to the bottom and my sync did increase but I thought that I moving the slider to the bottom would give you a low snr and then you would have to start moving the slider back up until you found a decent snr ?
At the moment I have got a sync of 4352 so that would land me into the 3500 BRAS rating but I was under the impression that you could really test your line until it was unstable and then ease off until you hit the sweet spot ?

Drphibes

ps I presume my speedtouch is a version 5 because the firmware installed began with the number 5 ?

The way to tell the version number is to look at the Speedtouch HTTP setup screen, click on "Information" and look for the board version number. 'BANT-K' ( 585v5) or 'BANT-W' (585v6)

You can also find this using the DMT tool.

Thanks for that info I now know that I have a version 5 .

Any idea on why I cannot get that snr down lower than 10ish ? I just looked in the stats and I have 18 up and 10 down figures for my snr.

Thanks

I have noticed that in the modemoptions part of dmt tool it does give me the following message.

"possible default target-noise-margin setting detected!"
"modemoption 00= <08 / setting trackbar to value 68 (hex)"

I am wondering if 08 is the lowest figure that I can use on the line ? when I do enter 08 in the 00 section I do seem to get the best resulting sync of 4352.
Due to me playing around I have buggered my BRAS rating and it is stuck at 1000 at the moment which is a fall from my usual 3000.
Touch wood it will rise to 3500 in three days if it can hold the current sync.

Any other ideas on possible tweaks would be welcome because I do not think i am a million miles away from the 4000 BRAS rating.

Thanks

Drphibes

Have you tried restarting DMT, once you saved the changes, to see if the slider goes back to the middle to have another go?

Hi

Yes restarted dmt tool on numerous occasions and still do not seem to be able to really stress my line.
On my last attempt the slider was moved right to the bottom and then I saved the settings, this got me a sync speed of 4352 and the snr at the moment read 8 down and 18 up.

I even deleted the dmt tool config file and started right from the start but still recieved the same results.
I am wondering that my BRAS 1000 rating might be holding me back from getting better results ? Maybe I will have to wait three days before it gives me a higher rating ?
