Speedtouch 585 sluggish perfromance

[link to this post]

Hi

I bought a recon Speedtouch 585 from dsldepot last week and have been using it for a few days.
I got the feeling that web browsing was a bit sluggish and to do a test I plugged my US Robotics 9106 back into my setup and I do indeed notice the pages loading quite a bit quicker than they are doing with the Speedtouch.
My question is are there certain settings that I could alter with the Speedtouch or do you think I might have a faulty unit ?

Thanks

Hi

Not got the 585 plugged in at the moment due to going back to my US Robotics 9106.
Is the option you state in the Speedtouch menu's or is it a windows setting ?
I have asked DSL Depot for a exchange and they are sending me a return box tomorrow but if your suggestion works then I would not need to do this.

Thanks

Drphibes

Hi

Just found this comment after a quick search so I will give it a try.

"You can improve performance by disabling your SpeedTouch"s built-in transparent HTTP proxy. In the SpeedTouch"s WebGUI: Home > SpeedTouch > Configuration, click "Configure", uncheck the "Web Browsing Interception" checkbox. Please be aware that this disables the Web Site Filtering feature as well."

Hi

Yes that has done the trick , performance is a lot quicker than before so that option was definately having a impact on the browsing speed.
Thanks for the tip looks like you have saved me having to return the router.

What is this feature? I've noticed it on mine, but don't know what it is.

It's something to do with Parental Controls, other than that, I don't know, but it slows down web page access, so I disable it.

I tried it on my 546 and when the PPP session is disconnected the ST pops up a page asking if you want to connect to the Internet when set to auto. When off I get page cannot be displayed. Perhaps the same for Parental controls - intercepting the controlled page and substituting a ST one.
