DG834GT - recommended antennas?

[link to this post]

Hi All,

I need to increase the range of my wireless signal, as the router is situated in the porch and I get poor signal strength in the rear bedroom.

I was hoping a cheap and easy way to improve this is to replace the standard dg834gt white antenna with a better one.

I know nothing about 5 or 9db etc. or what affect this will have on a 'super-g' signal, so I was hoping you guys could suggest something?

Many Thanks,

George

Bear in mind that upgraded omni-directional antennas give a "doughnut" shaped signal and takes signal from directly above and below where the router is located.

Is the PC in the rear bedroom a desktop PC or a laptop ? If it is a desktop, you should buy an antenna for this as well as the router itself assuming it is detachable.

So a 5 dB antenna gives a signal boost as long as you don't have the PC located directly above or below the router. This is usually the best option if you have a two or three storey house.

A 9 dB router works in a similar fashion but loses more signal above and below but reaches further on the horizontal. So if you had a flat or bungalow where all the rooms are on the same storey, a 9 dB works best.

This site sells both types for less than
