Tip: DG834G (v1) DNS issue

[link to this post]

I was having a lot of problems using my laptop through my DG834G with the latest firmware. Basically web sites were not loading.

I eventually found what was causing the problem.
I had set the DNS server setting in the firmware to "automatic".
On the laptop, if I did a command line "ipconfig /all" it would show the DNS server as 192.168.0.1, that is the internal IP of the router. When the router was set this way I was having lots of DNS problems. The router did not seem to be directing DNS requests through to my ISP's servers properly.

Then I set the DNS server setting to manually specify my ISP's DNS servers. When I did this an "ipconfig /all" would show up the proper ISP DNS addresses. Set this way I had no problems at all and it found web pages very quickly.

This problem only seems to have cropped up since I flashed to the latest firmware (3.01.31). It was not a problem with the 3.01.29 beta.

Just thought I would share that just in case anyone else was having similar problems.

A useful bit of info and probably explains why my firmware upgrade
made things worse rather than better!

If it ain't broke...........!
