Unofficial firmware for DG834GT

[link to this post]

For those who don't know, you can get an unofficial improved version of the firmware from http://dragonslight.altervista.org/ubergt/index.html
This offers several improvements over the official firmware, including:

- noise margin and similar tweaks can now be saved, so the changes survive a reboot
- NAT loopback can be enabled
- telnet access can be permanently enabled

It also features an extended web interface, in which you can tweak noise margin and several other things without needing to use the DMT tool.
Although it makes no such claims, users have said that it gives them a higher sync speed, and my early results appear to confirm this.

And somewhat to my amazement, it seems to support seamless rate adaption. According to the stats, and confirmed by the log, I've had continuous uptime since I installed the firmware 23 hours ago, yet the sync speed went down from 7040 to 5472 overnight (which is normal on my line, but of course would previously have meant a re-sync). It will be interesting to see if it goes up again during the day.

Sounds cool, does that firmware only work on the GT or will it be ok on the G as well?

The DG834G is completely different hardware, so I won't be trying it!

Th GT uses the Broadcom chipset, all DG834 and DG834G routers use Texas Instruments Ar7 chipsets.

Think I'll have to try this again.

I'm with Be* and had used my DG834GT with this firmware to take adavantage of Annex M, I just found the Bebox config pages confusing.
At the time I was experimenting with my SNR and using the inbuilt DMT to lower it.
I began to get re-syncs in the evenings, so switched to the BeBox as I felt this had a better error count page, but never thought of setting the Seamless Rate Adaptation to on.
If this does work that would be fantastic news, I'll give it a go.

I wouldn't put too much credence in this. SRA is supposed to be only an ADSL2+ feature, so it may be just false reporting by the router.
