[link to this post]

Anyone know how to disconnect and re-connect a Belkin 7633 without rebooting?

Cheers,

pull the RJ11 out of the back of it and plug it back in?

This review gives you some useful info near the bottom on how to telnet in & a list of commands.

(Except, at least on mine, it should be
"Click on Start > Run and type in: telnet 192.168.2.1 then press OK" rather than192.168.1.1)

"adsl connection --up" should then do what you want.

Just pulling the plug out and reconnecting is not a recommended action. The other end of the ADSL connection is likely to take that as line instability as it can tell it was not a managed shut down (no dying gasp signal).

How about pull out the RJ11 from the Belkin, toss the Belkin in a skip and replace it with a router that allows you to re-establish the PPP session without a reboot, and plug in the RJ11?

Same problem. Just switch the router off first before disconnecting.

Still it answers the question.

I appreciate that, it's just that not everybody may realise that you are not offering it as a serious solution.

Because generally speaking, it does a good job.

You could always recommend another tho.

If you can access the shell using telnet then it shouldn't be too difficult. On my Netgear (which has a disconnect button in the UI anyway) I think "rc wan restart" will do it, or I can killall pppd.
