Firmware for ST585 - how to update ?

[link to this post]

Can anyone please point me to some simple guides on how to update my Speedtouch 585 v6 firmware ?

I only want to update to the official UK Release 6.2 downloaded from the thomson-broadband.co.uk support page, but the User Guides and Documentation are on the Thomson Telecom Partner webpage which requires registration as a reseller Partner in order to download the Upgrade Wizard.

The simplest way:

You need the CD that came with your Speedtouch as that has the updater application on it... if I recall correctly there's even an option to search for available "official" updates on it....

An alternative:

Grab firmware from www.speedtouch.co.uk and use the updater wizard from a different variant - but point it to the firmware you downloaded when it says it can't find a compatible firmware as part of the upgrade wizard.

All at your own risk though. No warranties by me on your router or ability

Upgrade Wizard:
http://www.thomsontelecompartner.com/getfile.php?id=2503

The process is fairly self-explanatory when you run the wizard.

Thanks for the replies.

I have the install CD somewhere, just can't find it now. The Wizard appeared to have upgraded the firmware successfully eventhough the process threw up an error message before the last step where it says the the device was not detected (after the upgrade mode and transferring softwares were done).

Anyway, what prompted me to look for a firmware update was that the router has recently stopped connecting to the internet automatically after powering up. I had to log in to the router user-interface and click on Connect to internet.

The new firmware has not resolved the problem. Any idea ? Is this a hardware failure or is my ISP (Bulldog) preventing users from auto-login ?

My 585v6 recently did that too (firmware 6.1.4.3), with no changes in config by me, and all remote admin is disabled with no open ports, so nobody else did it. I'm with Eclipse right now, activated on Be tomorrow.

I think I made it behave by connecting and running "saveall" via telnet..... I don't think I changed anything else...

edit: I think I might have also changed the idle timeout - I never changed it before, since my connection is never inactive:

I might have run these...
ppp ifdetach intf=Internet (you will lose your net connection after you run that)
ppp ifconfig intf=Internet idletime=0
ppp ifattach intf=Internet (this will restore the net connection)
saveall
system reboot

The ppp link might connect automatically after it reboots....
