Billion ADSL modem/routers, any feedback?

[link to this post]

I'm researching what to buy adsl router wise that Isn't based on the AR7 chipset.

The speedtouch 585 looks like an ideal product with a Broadcom Chipset i believe. A bit cheaper and more within my budget is the Billion 7300g (Trend Chipset).

Just wondered if anyone has any feedback on this model in respect mainly to it's ability to hold a connection (PPP) on a less than perfect line.

Thanks..

we've got one on a >63 dB line running over 2M it hosts a VoIP server and seems to stay up well. It might be a 7402 rather than a 7300.

I've got a 7300G at home and a 7300 at work.

There good units but a little quirky in there behaviour.

Tips I've learnt:

Turn off the watch dog agent, otherwise it can crash the modem (its suppose to reboot the thing in the event of a lock uip). Much more reliable afterwards.

You need to hit 'apply' after setting up port forwards, always catches me out for some reason.

Sometimes after a disconnect, it won't reconnect and reports username/password error, a reboot will fix this.

As for long lines, its ok, give's me a better sync than my old Belkin 7633 (broardcom). My line does drop every so often, not too bad (i think its the line more than anything else), but the 7633 was better at holding a connection. But I found the firmware more buggy/a pain.

What's your sync rate?

We got a 8128/832 sync at work on a 7300A (for the last few months) never had any problems with dropped connections until yesterday. It looks like your sync'ing at the highest rate I wouldn't of thought you would have a problem but your milage may vary

I have a variance of 4-5db on the downstream SNR margin, which appears to tip the AR7 chipset modems over the edge.

It looks like the Speedtouch 585 can be had for

I think it might be safer to pick the 585 with that variance.

I can gain about 300-400k better sync on my long line with the 7300G over the 7633.
