Is it possible to............

Connect a Speedtouch 585v6 to a cable router via Ethernet?. Is it really that simple?. The intention is to connect two computers to the internet via wireless. Would anything in the Speedtouch need switching off?.

Make sure the Speedtouch's LAN IP address doesn't clash with cable router's but is in the same range. Turn off DHCP in the Speedtouch.

You need to make sure the DHCP server on the speedtouch is switched off and that the ip address is in the same range as that of the cable router.

Over my head I'm afraid I suppose the easiest option is to buy say

http://www.netgear.co.uk/wireless_firewall_router_wgr614.php

and totally remove the modem from the equasion.

The simplest solution would be to buy a combined modem router yes, but personally I would look other makes rather than Netgear.

NOTE: Combined cable modem/router combos are very rare and likely to be expensive and a pig to set-up.

The simplest route is the existing cable modem and then a dedicated cable/DSL router.

NOTE: The op has posted the question multiple times and had several devices suggested now.

Oh I misunderstood I thought it was an ADSL modem that was required.
