Setting up Filezilla FTP server on Zoom x6 router

[link to this post]

Ok, this one is killing me! I've been trying to set up a Filezilla FTP server on a spare PC via a Zoom x6 adsl modem/router-

Here's what I've done so far but with no joy.

1) I set up the PC with a static ip address on the LAN. 10.0.0.6 and made sure the gateway & DNS were correct. Once set I opened a browser and checked I still had a net connection.

2) I then logged into the router and set up a Virtual server on 10.0.0.6 port 21

3) Checked my external IP, put that along with username and pwd into my FTP client and nothing??

What have I missed??

My ISP is Supanet if that's of any relevance??

Try forwarding port 20 as well.

If connecting on the LAN side of the router using the external IP it will not work.

You need to be on another broadband connection to test this.

Hi Panda. Tried this but still no joy.

Just ran a portscan on the external ip and the FTP port doesn't show. Starting to drive me nuts now!

Check you can access the FTP server from within your LAN first, using the 10.0.0.6 address.
That will at least eliminate server config issues.

Once it is confirmed the FTP server is working within the LAN, you can then work on the router.
I haven't has experience of your particular model, however, it should be just a matter of forwarding the correct ports for incoming connections to the FTP server.

The requests need to come from an external address (not from within your network) to your WAN IP, so you'll need another connection to test with.

Mr S, thank you!

I didn't think of this, obviously!!

As soon as I get the opportunity to try this then I shall report my findings!
