Can this be done please?

At my business unit (Council owned) I currently have broadband coming in over a WAN or Extranet of some sort....anyway, it's too unreliable so I'm looking to bring my own broadband into the unit.

The setup is currenty what I am told is a switching box (some D-Link kit), which takes the Cat 5 cable in from the council ran extranet, then runs it out to our two PCs and gives us both internet access as well as allowing us to share the multi-printer machine.

I intend to go with Be* (who are also my current home ISP). Can I assume all I have to do is plus the BeBox (ADSL Modem/Router) into the soon to be converted digital enabled line, then I can simply plug the exisitng network Cat 5 cable into one of the 4 lan ports on the BeBox and allow it to run off sown to the existing switch box and act as normal?

You may wonder why I need to utilise the switch box at all when the BeBox could do this? It's because of the layout of the unit (over 2500ft2) and where the broadband enters and also the fact that the cat5 cable is already in place. It's easier just to interrupt what was the Extranet cable and add in the ADSL router, then allow the net to be shared (along with the printer sharing) through the switch box.

I'd appreciate any better ideas or will this work OK?

Yes, assuming the soon to be digitally enabled line is your BT phone line with Be ADSL and this "switching box" is just a switch used by your PCs and printer.

Will it be difficult to set up or will it literally retain it's sharing settings once it receives it's internet from the BeBox?

If refering to a multiport ethernet switch - then yes, PC's will need their ethernet leads unplugging and plugging back in to tell them to get a new IP address.

Problems could be, if the PC's have a council based proxy setting (This will have to be removed).

NOTE: The Be box actually shared the connection already, Ethernet switches just simply add more ports.
Asking about the existing switching box is important because this may be a fancy router, and issues may arise then

Is your new line a simple analogue line coming direct from BT ?
