new netgear DG834G wireless router speeds

i've just recieved my wireless router from adsl24 which came pre configured. i got it to replace my usb speedtuch modem. i done this because i was told i would get better speeds but so far it seems to be slower than the usb modem. i pretty new to this wireless stuf so does anyone have any tips on how to make the speds better

start by telling us what the speeds are

Also the line attenuation, connection speed and noise margin from the Netgear web interface ( press the Show Statistics button ) would be helpful.
